December 2015 Moms

When did you stop working?

I am currently 33 weeks. Everyone, including my boss, has asked me when I will stop working and go on leave, but I honestly don't know when. I'm surprised I still feel as good as I do at 33 weeks, still working 40 hours a week on my feet, I just don't know when to stop. I also work at McDonald's so it's honestly not earth shattering if my baby boy makes a surprise early visit and I have to call out of work early. When did you ladies stop working? And how long before you went back to work after you delivered?

  • My last day is the11/ 22.  I will deliver on 11/27 at 37 weeks.  I could have worked up until the day of but, wanted a few days to breathe.

My last day will be 12/11, a week before my due date. Assuming I make it that long. I'm not going back to work (at least for a few months, and definitely not to that job) afterwards, as maternity leave is unpaid and daycare is more than I make; it's not worth it. At this point I'm wishing every day were my last. I am so ready to leave.

  • I plan on continuing to work right up until baby is born. Unless my boss offers me time off ;) I've been on reduced hours for pre term contractions for the last few months, but I'm still working 30+ hours

  • I plan to work up until baby arrives. As uncomfortable as it is, I'm 37 weeks, if it looks like I'm overdoing it at work, my doctor won't put me on bed rest at this point. Baby is allowed to come any time.

Besides I have a clingy 3 year old at home that wants me to carry him all the time right now...working is a breeze compared to lifting him or playing on the floor with him all day.
  • I'm working up until December 22. Can't afford to take off any earlier unless baby comes. Well, still can't afford it but no choice at that point!
  • I'll be working till he slides out. It sucks to be on my feet all day but I'd rather save my days for when LO is here.
  • Lurking from Jan '16 board. I'm due on 1/1 but my last shift is overnight on 12/17. (38 weeks on 12/18) I'm fitting my full time schedule into the first part of December so it'll be an intense 18 days but we don't have a great system for back up if I go into labor early so work didn't want to take that chance.

  • Working full time up to birth unless complications arise. 3-4 12 hour shifts a week really suck, but it gives me more time with baby.
  • Work till I pop.
Or a couple of days before- work are scared in case I go early...
  • I'm almost 38 weeks and plan on working up until baby comes or Nov. 30, whatever comes first. I usually work about 45-50 hrs a week and have a toddler at home but so far I feel ok. I plan on working from home week of Thanksgiving so this is my last week in the office.
  • I'm a photographer with my own business so I set my own schedule...I just worked my last photo shoot today (37 weeks today) and will be finishing up editing and office work over the next week (hopefully!). My due date is 12-6 but I just scheduled my c section for 11-30. I was really hoping for a December baby! Oh well!

  • Unless doc tells me I can't work abd therefore triggering my sick leave, I'll be working up until Dec 23rdd (due date). If baby is late i'll be off because my office closes down from the 24th through jan 1.

I pkan on taking 9-11 weeks after baby arrives depending on type of delivery (two extra weeks for csection) .
  • I was going to work until I delivered, but I had to go on STD on Nov 2 at 35+4 because of high blood pressure at work. I'll be taking 6 weeks off after DD comes (or 8 weeks if I have a c-section).
  • Thankfully my company offers 4 weeks fully paid (doesn't impact after either) before so my last day was November 2. Thank god cause this pregnancy has not agreed with me. Thankful babe has done great tho!
  • I'm working till I pop. I'll be 38 weeks on Wednesday so I'm pretty ready to stop but I want all the after time with the baby.

  • I'm lucky that I am a professor and our semester ends 12/11 and classes start in mid January. I'm actually finishing up my classes and finals this Friday 11/20 and just didn't schedule anything for after Thanksgiving break. My students don't seem to mind. I'm not due until 12/17.
  • Due on the 12th, last day is the 3rd as long as everything goes as planned. :)
  • Due 12/11, planning on working all the way up to the due date as long as everything is looking good. I have some flexibility with my job to do half days at home if needed too, but I want to do as much as I can so I can save my time off for post-baby!

    Anniversary
  • I am due 12/25. The University where I work is closed Christmas Eve to New Years Day, so I will work until the baby arrives, or until Christmas Eve, whichever comes first. I am exhausted working 50+ hours at 34 weeks, but I have limited leave and I would rather spend it recovering and spending time with baby girl.
  • I saved up all my vacation as soon as i found out i was expecting so I just finished taking all of that Friday. I would have saved it longer but really, at 35 weeks, she could come anytime and if i don't use it before end of year, i lose it for good. So now i will work, either from home or from the office, until my "water breaks" (actually apparently only 10% of women even HAVE their water break before they're at the hospital) or the holidays start, whichever comes first :) I feel like you, Beth. I feel great, have a ton of energy and am stil puttering around like normal. Tons of contractions at night (basically nighttime is one long BH squeezefest) but doc isn't worried so i'm not either.
  • I am due December 10th, but will be induced early due to Gestational Diabetes. We are planning for December 7th, and I plan to work until December 4th. I do telephonic nurse case management so I work from home/office with a computer and phone. My boss has another nurse on our tean due this month so that is 2 of us so close together. Needless to say she is stressed.
  • I have one week left, next Monday will be my last day and I'll be 38;5 weeks. I only work 2 days a week usually, so 3 shifts total left for me, hooray! I'm feeling good all things considered but I work long shifts running around a big hospital and I'm excited to rest up.
  • My last day is in 3 days! Wednesday Nov 18 at exactly 38 weeks. Due 12/02. I just happened to have Christmas and New Years WEEK off prior to being pregnant so my boss allowed me to move up my vaca to Thanksgiving week plus a couple days. If Im late it will still be okay because I'm carrying 40 additional hours into the new year so they'll just take it out of that.

Once my baby is born the company will give me 12 weeks paid, no pto or vaca needed from me. I am very grateful.
  • Having a c-section Dec 10 and starting FML on the 7th. I'm lucky, though. As a teacher, I get a bonus two weeks with winter break. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I'd take any time beforehand.
  • I am working till 36 weeks, and then off for a year on mat leave. Can't wait!
  • *lurker from Nov 2015 board* I just stopped working at 38 weeks
  • I'm worried that I'll never stop working. Going right up to labor, and even put on my FMLA form to start leave three days after I'm due (because it's a Monday), but I'm also in charge of a pretty high profile project at work that was originally supposed to have two people on it, and while we originally planned for that second person to take care of certain tasks during the time I'm on maternity leave, she has since gotten a new job, so I'm pretty much all on my own. Yay.

Honestly, I wish I could be done now, but we need the money and I only get 6, maybe 7 weeks of pay while I'm off (and 6 of those weeks are at 60%), so no rest for me.
  • Stopped working at 36 weeks and have maternity leave for a year too :)

I'm due Dec. 10th and am working through Dec. 4th unless baby comes early or any medical complications arise. I'm taking paid time, FMLA time and then some unpaid time and staying out until after spring break, so I'll go back to work at the beginning of April. Seriously can't wait to start my leave!!! Counting down the days!!
  • @BethP321 I also only currently work at McD. I am due Dec28th, so my last day of work will be Dec20th so that I have a week off to relax/ prepare for her arrival and the holidays (Unless if she comes early that is..) I'll probably return to work 6wks after she's born. :)
  • I'm planning on working until I go into labor. I spend most of my time at a desk, though I do travel for hearings typically once or twice a week. My firm was very agreeable to limiting my travel to 1 hour from the office as of last week, and are working with me to trade hearings to make it work.

However, it's getting hard to get up in the mornings and go into the office. I've started thinking that maybe after this week I will start working from home a bit more. I'm not sure, though. I'm just glad I have the flexibility to choose what I want to do.
  • I'm also working full time up until I go into labor. I'm also a part time personal trainer and I'm taking my clients up until I go as well.  I only get 5 weeks off for maternity leave so I'm not taking off earlier.

  • I'm taking off 10 days before my due date (12/18 for 12/28). Those weeks are also Christmas/NY so will be nice to get the extra paid time off.
  • I am working right up to my due date as long as my doctor doesn't say I need to stop. After that I will take 6-8 weeks off. While I am easing back into a full time schedule my boss has agreed to let me work from home.
  • I'm working till the 30th if I don't go into labor before hand. (Due dec. 5th) I'll be 39w2 days at that point. Currently 37w2d!
  • I am working up until he arrives. Then I will be taking 12 weeks off after he his born. 4 weeks of 60% pay and then a week of PTO and the rest is unpaid.

  • I plan on working until I delivery. My due date is December 29th. I am also taking 12 weeks FMLA. My husband and I have tried for 3 years to get pregnant and at the same started putting extra money in our savings. That will help, along with my short term disability and I have to exhauste all of my leave as well.
  • I stopped working at 12 weeks because of the dangers of my job. I worked in a stock yard. Where they auction off livestock and being plowed by a 2000 lb animal wasn't too safe. But my husband told me to stay home and enjoy my pregnancy which I have done and won't be going back to work. I couldn't ask for more!
  • I plan on working until my due date unless they plan to induce me, maybe I'll plan to take the day before off to get things ready.
