Anyone else work in kitchens?

I'm 10 weeks and I work as a chef in a kitchen! I'm miserable all day and trying not to dry heave constantly! Anyone else dealing with horrible food smells all day?

My husband is a chef and I've often thought how terrible it would be to have his job right now -- I can't relate but you have my complete sympathies.

I'm a bartender/server and can relate. I was working 6 days a week, but have cut back to only 4 for now. I was about to lose my shit... either going to stab a rude guest with a steak knife, pee my pants while I waited for "we're ready to order" tables to actually decide or vomit bussing plates (yeah we dont have busser). And when our Chef or cooks were having a bad day and yelled I broke down to tears. Plus the god awful smell coming from the dirty silverware tub. Bleh! Food and beverage is a dangerous place for KU women! The silver lining is special breakfast they make me & tell me all about their babies. You have my sympathy & complete understanding.
  • I was a GM of a Pizza and Wings type restaurant and I had to leave. One the 60+ hours a week were starting to get to me. And two, the smell of the food. My employees found out because some smell bothered me to the point that I ran around the corner and threw up lol most of the cooks are dads so they were like I know that symptom! Lol oh and the fact that I'd get lunch from publix and bring back the weirdest combinations.
  • I used to!! I was the sous chef at a local French bistro for 3 years, then the head chef at an Italian restaurant for a year. Both before getting pregnant. But I remember my head chefs wife at the bistro when she got KU, was getting nauseous from the smells. I think if I were in a kitchen right now, cleaning fresh fish (specifically lobsters), making lobster stock/ bisque, breaking down tenderloins and dealing with assholes all day would seriously put me over the edge. I'd probably get fired if I were in a kitchen while pregnant. lol it's hard enough being a woman working in a kitchen, throw in the hormones, all bets are off!!! We got knives, ovens and fire. Don't mess with a pregnant woman. Hah

  • I'm currently a server at a truck stop and having an EXTREMELY hard time. The smells have me nauseous all day long, the people can be awful, and it's about 9 hours straight nonstop on your feet. I actually make decent money, so I want to bank as much as I can before the baby comes, but idk how much longer I can do 5 days a week. Work is by far the biggest stressor I'm facing. I completely sympathize!!
  • I don't work in the culinary industry, but my husband is a chef...so OMG the smells that come from him drive me insane lol. Also, I am just super sensitive to smell now, so everything pretty much stinks to me. I was pissed at a co worker who was eating soup 5 desks away from me....I wanted to take it and throw it out the window lol
