Chest cough

So i'm very worried because up until today my lo has had some cold symptoms with a dry cough at nighttime only, in his sleep and a little bit when he would wake in the morning. Now it seems worse like everything has moved into his chest, i can hear the congestion....He is coughing during the day all of a sudden and it is a deep chesty cough. I don't know what i can do for it other than what i've already tried. Is anyone else dealing with this?? I just want to help him

Re: Chest cough

  • We have it too. The whole family. Nothing is sadder than a baby's cough! If it's in the nose I highly recommend that you get the Graco nasal clear. Or as we call it the snot sucker. If it's all in the chest you can only just wait it out. I put her in the rock n play when I take hot showers to help loosen the phlegm. Not much you can do. My friend's baby has had this cough for 3 weeks! Hope your little one gets better soon.

  • We were at the doctor yesterday the recommended Vicks on lo chest and feet overnight. Made a big difference
  • My baby had a cough and congestion. We took him to the Dr and she said it could last up to two weeks but if it got worse before then or didn't go away to bring him back. Well we had to bring him back they had me do a breathing treatment which didn't make a big difference so luckily I didn't have to do that at home. She did put him on an antibiotic for 10 days after 2 days of being on the cough and congestion went fully away. We're still on the antibiotics we have 5 more days of taking it twice a day. She also recommended a humidifier.
  • Also try to sleep your LO on an incline. This way if anything is in his nasal with the help of saline it will drain out.
  • We are going on week 2 of having this cough. I have a snot sucker and we use the humidifier at night. I'm hoping the cough is gone soon, it wakes ds up every time he coughs.
  • Ok so he's not the only one? It sounds like it should be producing something but as of now it's not a productive cough..it just isn't breaking up. Now, do you want him to bring mucus up, would that be considered a good thing ? We have a humidifier set up where he sleeps and i've been letting him hang out in the bathroom for the steam. I also use babyrub on his chest/neck and back. I put a Vicks plug-in vaporizer in our bedroom as well
  • Whenever my LO would spit up a little when he had his bad cough and congestion he would bring up some mucus. His chest rattling would sound so much better or go away for a little bit it seemed liked he got more congested when he ate. How does your LO sound during or after eating? Did it seem worse? Since it has been like 2 weeks I would recommend taking your LO to the doctor to see what they recommend and that they can listen to your LOs breathing. I took mine when it started and then again after two weeks when it didn't go away. I'd rather you be a the safe side bc you don't want it to lead/ be something more severe. My nephew had really bad bronchitis around the 3 months and had to do breathing treatments. I was told that my LOs cough was suppose to last 7-14 days and since it didn't go away by then I took him back and like I stated in my PP they put him an a liquid antibiotic and his cough/ congestion went completely away after 2 days. Please take your LO to the Dr and explain how long your LO as been like this and get your LO checked out and see what they can do. They should get you in the day you call.
