Colette's Birth Story

I already posted in the Birth Announcements, but I figured I would go ahead and post about Colette's birth.

Colette Sawan was born Monday 11.09.15 (EDD 12.02.15) at 12:54PM.

I had a little bit of bright red mucous Sunday night after being intimate with DH. I was a bit concerned since this was the first time I've seen bright red blood the entire pregnancy. I went to bed knowing it could be normal and got up to use the restroom a little later and noticed more blood when I wiped.
Called after hours, and was told it was pretty normal after sex this late into pregnancy, but to call back if it didn't stop by morning.

Monday just before 8am, I got up to go to thee restroom and had a little bit of period like blood on a liner. I called, and my OB was available and asked that I be over within the next hour. DH, DS and quickly dressed and headed over. I noticed I was cramping a little bit, but they were difficult to time because they were not uncomfortably noticeable.

We arrived and meeting with my OB started out as every other appointment, and he went to check my cervix and said, "Oh boy, you're in labor kid. Your cervix was 2cm dilated and not thinned at all on Wednesday, and now you're 4cm dilated and fully effaced." Then he got my paper work going while my nurse went to tell DH and DS a baby was coming that day. I called my sister to let her know baby was coming (she lives in The Austin area), and heard my OB tell me to go straight to L&D at the Woman's Hospital. Not to stop at home or stop to eat or drink anything. She laughed at how calm I was.

We got to L&D and got into a room. DH and I decided I would get an epidural when I started to get uncomfortable since we figured I would be there for a while and if I started moaning or groaning at all I knew DH would pass out.
Shortly after 11 I told my nurse the contractions were starting to get uncomfortable so she sent for the anesthesiologist. DH was going to run home and grab my overnight bag and bring DS to our neighbor's house, but my nurse said to wait a moment since she would check me after my epidural was in. The anesthesiologist showed up and administered the epidural around 11:30, and my nurse checked me right afterwards and I was already at 7cm.
So DH and DS stuck around since things were going faster than expected. My mom showed up and played with DS until my OB showed up, which was around 12.

Shortly after 12 my OB checked me and I was between 8&9cm, he broke my water and let me know he'd be back within an hour to check me again. Around 12:30 he came back and I was 9.5cm. The team had me do a few practice pushes to get to 10cm, and I was at 10 by 12:40. My OB put on his blue suit and then it was time to really push. Three contractions later, and Colette was born at 12:54PM.

This little girl is a little gorilla just like when her mom was born. Lots of hair and looks just like DS too when he was little.
I ended up staying two nights since she was born just 2 days shy of 37 weeks, but everything went smoothly and we had our first full day at home yesterday.

It is a big adjustment for DS, but he's been so sweet to his little sister and loves her to pieces and has played with her during her tummy time. He was very rotten to DH and me, but it'll take some time to adjust and we are trying to be patient as we know it could even take months for his acting out towards us to go down. It's already better as long as one of us gives him full attention while the other is tending to Colette.

I know this is quite the novel, but we are so excited to finally meet her.
I can't wait to read everyone else's birth stories!

I'll reply with pics shortly.
