Has anyone started rice cereal yet? We just had our 4 month check up and my doctor gave us information on starting solids. I feel like it's really early, but she's sitting up with help, holding her head great, and even has a tooth poking through...
We are going to start soon. She turns 4 months on the 17th. My doctor just said to make sure it is more like soup when we start out and thicken as we go.
Yes I just started feeding LO beechnut veggies this week in the evening with his cereal. We started cereal last week he likes it thick and eats so good with a spoon. It's really enjoyable. He even likes to have conversation while eating. Next week we start a fruit. Dr wanted me to do a week of just cereal than start a veggie than a fruit. So he'll be getting cereal with a fruit in the morning and cereal with a veggie in the evening.
We started a bowl last week to try. LO is holding head, sitting (with help), rolling over and today started to crawl. I think I will give her a bowl a day now that she is becoming more active. (She is 17 weeks today).
We started with oatmeal cereal for a week and just started mixing bananas in with it the other day, we're going to try a veggie next can't believe how big she is getting so fast!
Just a suggestion, once starting fruits and veggies you may want to start veggies first since they are not as sweet as fruits. Once baby has fruits they may not want veggies.
I am a FTM and I also got the okay to start cereal with my son but my friend is going through a case that since her son tried solids he doesn't really want to drink milk. Is there any advice you can give me, do I nurse him first and then feed him solids or how are you mamas doing it!?
I've tried a few different veg and fruit purees, after a few goes she now opens her mouth wide like a baby bird and watches the spoon coming towards her, it's so cute! We still nurse throughout the day and she also gets a few supplement bottles too. I am just trying the solids in between her milk feeds so she isn't really hungry at that time incase she gets frustrated
my 4 mo apt is next week (even though he's 17 weeks) and he's been so uninterested in the bottle lately and not getting his caloric intake although last week he was gaining just fine. I thought I'd try putting a spoon in his mouth a few times on Friday and he didn't really resist it. on Saturday, we went out for tacos and he was sitting on my lap and kept slapping my plate and trying to get my tacos then cried when I moved my plate so today I thought I'd see how he would react to a spoon full of a mushed up banana. he LOVED it and then finally took the bottle! I'm pretty sure he's ready to start solids though I'll probably wait til next week after seeing the doc to officially start. going to skip the cereal because I personally think it's garbage. did anyone else's LO resist bottle a lot before starting solids? mine is EFF.
We've tried oatmeal mixed with breast milk and he didn't like it much on try #1. Try#2 was better! He ate a few tablespoons. We also tried squash and bananas. He did really well with those! All we've tried is Gerber brand for all 3.
We got the green light too Dr said start with veggies one at a time and best to go with something more bitter, takes about 2 tries for them to like sweek and 14 for bitter so we tried butternut squash and he didn't mind it the texture made him made funny faces haha and then now we've tried green beans which he loves lol. We do the rice cereal before bed and one serving of a veggie for lunch he is loving it.
My baby boy was 4 months on the 10th and was cleared for this on the 11th at his apt.
My son is also staring at my food and on Sunday tried to grab my plate but I don't mind waiting 2 more months. Hopefully by the 6 month appt, we will have the go for solids!
I was so dead set on starting solids at 6 months but I had an apt yesterday and got the go ahead to start introducing solids. She is 4 months Friday but she is almost sitting on her own. Near Perfect neck and head control. She feeds herself with her own bottle (while im holding it as well) an she has 4 teeth coming in at the same time...yes 4. She has doubled her bottle intake in the last 2 weeks so knew she needed something a little extra. We are doing homemade everything as it's just so much cheaper. So we made a oatmeal purée. And she loved it! Didn't take more then a couple spoonful and spit out the first 2 but after that she was opening her mouth for it and today was smiling big and opening her mouth for it! I will try feeding her this once a day for a week and if she enjoys I'll go to twice a day for another week then will introduce a veggie and so on. Good luck to all you other mommas starting solids!
Our ped told us to skip the cereal all together and gave us the go-ahead to start on fruit and veggie purees if he seems interested in food (but we're not in any rush to get him started, haha).
My LO loves cereal too. He's basically has liked every fruit and veggie. Some things he made a face the first two bites when he first had them but continued eating it. Now he doesn't make faces at all. He might be just greedy lol when I first gave him prunes though he made no weird face he got super excited and went nuts over them, he also did that with green beans. He even has conversation now while he eats and makes mmm noises telling me that there yummy bc that's what I do to him. I tell him everything is yummy even if I don't think it is.
Our doc also wanted us to start at 4 months. He's been eyeing my food for a while and now that he's eating solids he really wants mine. He managed a fist full of mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving while sitting on my lap, thankfully only a few made it to his mouth not ready to give him milk, butter, and garlic.
My son has loved everything I've thrown at him. He makes faces with peas, but then begs for more. We started with cereal and have been progressing to fruits and veggies. He's getting so good eating off the spoon. Now if only we can keep more of the food in his mouth and out of his nose.
My LO loves oatmeal cereal with breastmilk. He tries to take the bowl away from me and pull it to his mouth & he gets so impatient because I'm not fast enough.
