TTC After a Loss

Accupunture

Has anyone tried acupuncture post-miscarriage? I have heard it can be great for anxiety and has other health benefits post-MC. I have money I have to use on my health savings account by the end of the year and acupuncture is one of the services I can use it on. Just looking for thoughts, opinions, experience etc. If nothing else, it might be nice to go lay down somewhere for an hour!

Thanks ladies!

Re: Accupunture

  • I've been going to acupuncture since August (mc in April) since it is free thru my husband's work. It has helped some with my anxiety. Makes me feel as if the bad is leaving. I go 1-2 times per week.
  • My sister does acupuncture for a living (3 hours away from me) and has been begging me to go see someone.  It's expensive, though.  If I had a health savings account, I would totally do it.

I recently started going to an acupuncturist (I had 2 MCs this year) and I am really liking it. I went more for my anxiety (like @valleric ), but she apparently does fertility acupuncture so I have started using her services for that. Still too early to tell if she can help avoid future MCs, but either way I feel as if I am getting my body/reproductive/urinary systems in order. I recommend it if you have the extra cash, @carrieandroy is right, it's expensive! Especially since she wants to see me weekly!

  • @valleric I'm so jealous of your acupuncture connections!

I'm excited to give it a go, I spoke with one lady today who seems nice. It is pricy though $90 a visit. Might be an expensive nap, but worth a shot!
    Thanks ladies :)
  • After reading this, I went to my insurance page and found a provider. I will look to see how much will be covered. Not super hopeful, I don't think any will be covered but I wanted to get some options.

If my doctors can't help me get answers after this 2 losses, I will seriously consider it.

  • I've been going almost weekly since my miscarriage. I love it. It's a nice time to check in about how I'm feeling before the actual treatment. I find it very relaxing and helps me stay more calm.
  • Thanks Ladies!
I had my first visit on Wednesday, it was really interesting.I was there for over 2 hours, which was crazy. The lady was very nice and had feedback on my hormones based on info I gave her on my body, pregnancy symptoms, miscarriage info etc. She wants to see me weekly as others suggested for fertility.

I agree with other posters that it left me feeling rejuvenated afterwards.   Super meditative for me and a nice chance to focus on what I wanted my body to do.
  • I'm really excited to try it after reading this post ! Just called and left a message to make an appt .

  • Thought this is interesting. Has me thinking about it as well. If this month isn't our month then I think I'll make an appointment.

  • I started accupuncture following a recommendation from a friend who is convinced it helped her get pregnant after MC. I would suggest you look for accupuncturist who also specialises in fertility. I love the treatment. As other ladies have said, it has really helped me start to feel in control of my body again after the MC and like I am doing something positive in prepping my body for the next pregnancy.
  • I used to go for muscle issues, but the more I read about the positive feedback regarding ttc the more I'm convinced. time to call my insurance :)
  • @JayK2 I totally agree with finding someone who does actual fertility work. A few people I called would not see me because they were unfamiliar with it and did not feel comfortable knowing that was my reason for seeking treatment.
  • I just posted in the miscarriage - loss board . Went last night for the first time and woke up this morning with my first period since my d and c October 15! It was also incredibly relaxing and I left feeling like I had mainlined Xanax !

That's the same day I MC'd! I don't have the money for accupuncture but now I feel like I must get some together or see if I can get a procedure through insurance!!!

  • If you are in New Jersey I can give you the info of my guy . He does a weekly community acupuncture thing where it's a sliding scale minimum 25$ every Thursday between 2-7 pm
  • @firewaterx I am unfortunately in TX, in the El Paso area. Not many people out here on the board that I've seen :/ DH is checking into acupuncture on insurance because I'm on his insurance. My OB had recommended it to me and we turned her down for some reason, I can't remember why but I think it was due to the out of pocket cost, it wasn't covered by insurance. I can't be sure now. FX I can get acupuncture. I just want a period! Or to confirm O!
