3rd Trimester

Getting through the last few days of pregnancy.

Today was my due date, and still no baby. I am going crazy. Not only am I in so much pain and discomfort (I broke my back a few years ago and it never healed properly, so my back is just making me miserable), but I really just want my baby already! I am so tired of hearing "the baby will come when she is ready." She is full term, big. and not even my doctors want me to go very much over my due date. It is just so hard to wait for labor to happen! Anyone feel the same? Any advice--anything besides patience?

Re: Getting through the last few days of pregnancy.

  • Distract yourself or you will go nuts focussing on what's not happening.

Try to take a walk if you can- outside or the mall.
    Movies or a book
Get crafty if you are into that
Christmas shop and wrap presents! It will be tricky with a newborn

  • At the risk of TMI, I was overdue with my son by 10 days and due to be induced the next morning; I was desperate not to be induced having heard stories, so we took a 'roll in the hay' and some nipple stimulation, and about an hour later I was ready to go to the hospital! Good luck! If you're ready, I think it works like a charm!
  • Walk a lot and drink plenty of water. Please don't get online looking for ways to induce. Like a pp said, try to keep busy and distracted. Good luck :)

  • I agree with @kynbar5. I realized after having my son that I had walked a lot the day I went into labor...so I think that "method" is tried and true.

  • I have eight weeks to go and I just have a sneaking suspicion that come January I am going to have a very comfortable baby who isn't ready to leave his comfy home yet!! Hang in there!! I have heard that walking and sex are supposed to help things along ;)?!
  • I haven't been through your pain, but I recommend taking walks in a lap pool. That way you can get the labor inducing benefit of walking, but also get some relief from your back pain. If you don't have a gym membership, find a gym or Y that has a pool and use their 1 week free trial (most gyms have these offers online).

Also, a prenatal massage might feel wonderful, and can also help reduce your stress. If a whole body massage is too expensive you can get a chair massage for just your head and neck or a foot or arm massage (which are safe at this point because you aren't really worried about inducing labor) .

Anything to take your mind off your discomfort will be good, mani pedi's, a steam facial, a warm bath with Epsom salts and lavender to reduce any swelling and stress.

    GL!
  • I got exactly a week to go and it feels like I'm going nuts too! I tried walking and sex as well but my baby seems to be too comfy inside of me. The cramping and pelvic pain is just making me miserable. I'm happy I'm not alone. Thanks for all the advice I'll do more walking and try to keep myself busy too
  • I have 5 weeks to go, and I'm horribly uncomfortable! I am ready to see my LO, but I know that there is still more time for them to grow, and become stronger! Hang in there. Keep your mind occupied, walk, read, or do whatever will help you keep distracted!
  • I have a little less than 8 weeks to go and I'm so uncomfortable and can't wait to have LO but you think since you're in so much pain and past your due date that you're doctor would want to go ahead and induce or something.
