Help! 4 month old refuses BM bottle!

I started back to work this week & put my son in daycare.

The first day, he did fine...accepted all 3 4 oz bottles (I had 3 different kinds just in case, but prior to that always seemed to like all of them - Medala Slow Flow, Phillips Avent, & Munchkin Latch).

The second day, I BF him before I left for work, but had to come home/take a sick day because he was refusing the bottle. First time mom here, I was freaking out since he went from 7:30-2. I thought he would cluster feed after, but seemed to then accept a bottle around 5 pm after putting my index finger on it & my husband took over with no issues either.

I called the pediatrician & they said if I would had waited another hour, he would have taken it (however, I am very doubtful) & wasn't too concerned since he was still having wet diapers & was pretty content also (smiling, sleeping fine, happy as a clam) for the day.

Then came today....BF him before work at 6:15 am, & daycare called saying that he wasn't accepting it. Finally around 2:30, they took an eye dropper out & had to feed him that way. I BF him again when I came home from work/put him to bed for the night since he didn't want anything to do with the bottle.

I am VERY concerned/scared about next week since I have a three night work trip across the country :-/. He accepts the breast just fine, but doesn't want any part of the bottle. It's so weird since he never seemed to mind the bottle before. I know it was a big change this week, but i'm even more nervous for when I'm not going to be home for 3 nights!

Any advice? Has this happened to anyone?!?

You're not alone. My son prefers the breast over the bottle and I don't mind I take it as a compliment. We have tried Tommie tippy and Comotome bottles and he took them a couple times but only takes them when he wants. So my mom bought him a training sippy cup and he prefers that over the bottle. He takes it just fine and it's for babies that are 4+ months. Also I've heard nothing but great reviews for the Minbie Bottle. Amazon has them and also you can go to their website at Minbie.com and they are designed especially for breastfed babies. You could try it and see if your little one likes it. Also you can look at the reviews on Amazon and for many mamas this bottle has worked. Good luck and I hope everything does work out! Don't worry you are doing a great job mama!!

  • My son is the same way. We have practiced giving him bottles long before I even knew he was going to daycare. He took the bottle for the babysitter but as soon as he started daycare he decided he no longer wanted a bottle. He would sleep and wait for me to get their. My pediatrician said it was fine as long as he isn't bothers by it and isn't losing weight. Just recently he's been letting them give him bottles but only if they don't hold him ( so particular). Good luck! Hopefully of he gets hungry enough he will eat
