Sorry to bring up the C word before Thanksgiving but my birthday is next week and Christmas is next month and people are hassling me for gift ideas and I never know what to say. I always come up with things that are really for the kids or household crap. Maybe other people have the same problem.
So, what do YOU want? What are your gift ideas that are just for you?
Re: What do you want for Christmas?
But no really. I don't want to spend too much this year since I'm now a SAHM. I'd rather spend money on some of the big things we'll need for LO soon. A nice umbrella stroller, convertible car seat, walker, toys for bigger babies, etc. DH and I have talked about getting ourselves a new computer and photo editing software to handle our influx of baby pictures too. Who knows though!
Um, in all seriousness, in terms of something that might for real be given as a gift - a new laptop would probably be realistic. At least, as close to normal people realistic. We don't buy gifts so neither of us will get anything. LO will get stuff because of the grandparents. I guess we'll have to buy him something, too
I could list practical things, like finishing the garage or redoing the driveway. But since this is a game, what I would love is the clock below. We live in a mid century modern house. When we renovated, I had the original steel kitchen cabinets refinished in vintage turquoise and this clock would be perfect. Our whole house is gray and white with pops of turquoise, orange, and lime green. I don't want a knock off, either. I want the real thing.
Realistically, I'd be happy with a nice bottle of Malbec and a clean bathtub.
I bought my husband a hoverboard for Xmas this year, it's basically for me disguised as a present for him.
I'm lucky that I usually get things for my bday/Christmas that I ask for specifically, but as an adult it's rare to be surprised with a thoughtful gift I didn't pick out myself.
What I'd really like if it were possible would be for someone to go clothes shopping for me and pick out a bunch of clothes that look awesome and fit my post pregnancy body well without the hassle of me having to go, dragging LO along, trying stuff on and making decisions. Just to be surprised with new clothes that fit, that were in style and I didn't even know I wanted, like I got when I was 10 years old.
But I don't even know what will fit and flatter me these days, much less my family who hasn't seen me in three months. So it's just an idle fantasy. I could ask them to buy me clothes, but their taste is different from mine so the chances I wouldn't like them are great. Maybe I should just ask my husband to take me and the baby clothes shopping again soon to catch the Black Friday sales...
Anywho...I hate getting gifts. There is nothing I need that I don't already have, and I'd rather save the money. He was going off about what I wanted for Christmas and I told him nothing because it's true. But he knows the answer is ALWAYS a massage if he is really that compelled to buy a gift.
I do think I'll ask for two 12 spot picture frames. Not a baby specific one, but just a plain black frame that has 12 spots in it. I'll put a picture from each month in it for the twins' first year.
Our parents are each getting us a convertible car seat because with lo at 18 lbs now the carrier seat is basically pointless. We'll probably also get some cash to put toward furnishing the house (ordered a dining set last week, so all we need are accent chairs and coffee/side tables for the living room and I think the first floor is done until we can afford to acquire some artwork).
I also asked my mom for a couple pairs of shoes that I've been wanting.
Lastly I want a baby sitter so I can go see the new Star Wars movie!
Yasss.
What do I want? Gift cards for clothes. The cookies my Mimi makes every year. Pajamas. The rest of my list is actually baby stuff disguised as stuff for me like crib sheets, pnp sheets, and another waterproof cover for the pnp.
I guess we need sheets, too. I'll add that.
(Wtf you sayin', boy!??)
I just look at him and ask, "so, who is going to watch our kid from 11pm to 3am? Considering we don't even have someone who can watch him from 6pm to 10pm every other Friday?"
And he tries to tell me we're going to bring LO with us.
My favorite travel mug is the Contigo. DH and I were gifted a pair about 5 years ago, and they are always in our carry-on luggage for every move.
Would also love a nice travel jewelry holder.
And a permanent residence, lol
Shutterfly has the same thing, and they'll ship to your house. There is a shipping cost with those, though.
I feel like I mostly want house stuff. A busy year planning for a baby means we put lots of other things aside. New carpet, a chair and a half and maybe a few little things to freshen up the living room are on the list! But that will most likely be in the spring, so maybe some simple things for Christmas - clothes, new coffee maker, stuff like that!
