Supplement with formula

I am trying to be overly prepare and have some formula on hand in case my supply drops when I go back to work. I know formula is very dependent on the each baby, but was curious as to which one to even start with as a baseline. To date LO has not had any reactions to foods, maybe. Little gasy at times but that is all so far. Any suggestions would be great!

Re: Supplement with formula

  • We have Similac Advanced just in case. So far, as long as it is mixed 50/50 or more BM,  LO hasn't had any issues if he is a bit short on BM while at Day Care.

  • Agreed with above PP, my supply started randomly dropping and after a lot of stress and trying to build it back up with no success, we switched to formula and started out 50/50 to ease into it.
  • We just gave our DS2 and DS3 the store brand of the regular (not sensitive, gentle, or soy) formula and they were fine with it. Also, the store brand formulas for Walmart, Target, Sam's Club, and Kmart are all from the same manufacturer (as far as we could tell from the information on the packaging). Neither baby seemed to notice any difference switching from the different store brands, which made getting formula on sale a whole lot easier.
  • I started off supplementing. I used Enfamil newborn and my daughter was good with it-no issues. I looked at the ingredients of the regular infant formula and it's basically the same. I never mixed formula and bm together because formula goes bad quick where as you can refrigerate remaining bm for another 24hrs. If mixed with formula, you have to get rid of it within a hr. With a low supply, I wouldn't waste a drop
  • I've used both similac and enfamil for supplementation. She likes the enfamil brand better, it seems to have a closer consistency to breast milk. The Similac also has on odd smell to me (maybe like vanilla?) and is a little thicker. She took it but not as easily. No belly problems with either one!
  • We use similac supplemental. I don't mix it with BM when I use it. LO hasn't had any issues
  • Just switched from Enfamil for supplementing to Earth's Best because the former started to give LO more reflux than usual. So far it seems to work well.
