Freezing after bath

How do you keep your little ones warm immediately following bath time? DS loves his baths but is shivering and has goosebumps the minute I take him out of the tub, and he screams the entire time I try to put his lotion, diaper, and a warm outfit on him. I usually nurse him right after his bath, so he calms down then. I have noticed his little hands stay cold for a while afterward but it doesn't seem to bother him much. I have started turning the shower on the hottest setting and closing the bathroom door while I bathe him to keep the room nice and steamy, but it doesn't seem to help. He still shivers and cries as soon as I wrap him in a towel. Any tricks to keeping him warm that perhaps I am missing?

Re: Freezing after bath

  • Try throwing the towel in the dryer and taking it out right before you wrap him in it.

  • I plug in a little heater before I to in so it get a nice and warm. And I keep it running and get him ready in the bathroom.
  • I do the same as pp. I turn a room heater on before the bath, close the door to the rr, take the bath with the heater running, then change him in the rr with the heater. I don't turn the heater off until we leave the rr.
  • I've been doing the towel in the dryer as pp mentioned, seems to work well, she doesn't love baths tho, so there's always a little bit of crying
  • I put the towel on immediately then a quick diaper and then I do skin to skin with a blanket over us for about 10 minutes. He loves it and I love the bonding. Obviously if I had somewhere to go I might not have the time but it works for us for now and gets the crying to stop.

This is what we do too. Towel dry, diaper, then skin to skin with a clean dry blanket covering his back and legs. If we have time we hang out and nurse and cuddle for a long time before we get up and put his clothes on.

  • After my first child, I stopped using the hooded baby towels.  They're about $10 a piece and are usually not very good quality compared to regular towels.  So now (baby 3) I'm using really great quality, fast drying towels that I bought at Kohl's on sale from $18 to $9.  The same price as the hooded baby towels but much thicker and efficient at drying.  I keep them separate (they're a different color than any other towels in our house) and still wash them using Free and Clear detergent/dryer sheets.
  • We have a good size farm sink in our kitchen so we put the infant tub in that because its easier than kneeling on the bathroom floor. We usually heat up the room with the oven and she seems to stay pretty warm that way :)
  • I think most babies cry after baths because they're cold. I just try to have everything ready afterward to get him dried off and dressed. He calms right down once he's warmed up a bit.
  • I would turn the space heater on full blast and close the door while we were having bath time. I also used regular towels bc they were thicker and warmer than the cutesy hooded towels. Never had an issue with chills even though hubby says I take forever to get the kids lotion education and dressed lol
