Anyone Else work at night?

Hey ladies,

I was just wondering if anyone else on here works at night?  I am a dispatcher for police and fire and have been on nights for a couple years.  Just wondering how anyone else deals with night shifts/sleeping during the daylight and being pregnant.

Re: Anyone Else work at night?

  • ME! I do the same. I just sleep when I can at home, bring in hot chocolate, and have a Netflix subscription

  • yay!  Another dispatcher! I wish I could watch Netflix at work.  I tend to watch a ton of family guy and golden girls while working!  Honestly I haven't been too upset working nights with all this MS.  I couldn't do it on days or evenings because its just too busy to run to the bathroom every 10 minutes! Do you work alone or are you in a large dispatch center?  I get so lonely on nights!! :)
  • Ugh I had MS up until week 11. I kept Preggy Pops and sour candy with me every night. I work with 1-2 other people. I shamefully binge watch shows on Netflix.

I work nights too. I just have blackout curtains in my windows so it's nice and dark. That has helped my sleeping a ton! I put my phone on do not disturb too so only certain people can call. I hate when people call during the day and im trying to sleep. The only downfall to nights for me is nothing is open when Im actually craving something to eat! Pizza without sauce is one of the only things I can always eat when the thought of anything else makes me wana hurl. Grrrrr seriously 24 hr pizza places need to happen I dont want breakfast when I leave work in the "am". Lol
  • Night shift nurse x 8 years and this is baby #3. It was much easier to manage sleeping before I had the babies, but we still manage well. We have a sitter that comes the mornings after I work and takes care of the girls, puts my 5 year old on the bus, and hangs with the 2 year old until nap time (12:30) then puts her to bed and I just get up when she does (around 3). It's not ideal, but I get around 5 and a half to 6 hours.

I wish! I could atleast go on my break! I work 6pm-4am :( I work in the middle of nowhere theres a TA truck stop near by but I dont trust that place. Only for convience store snacks. Some people at my work work there part time at the resturants and the stories I have heard... yuck xP
  • omg I hear you about nothing being open.  I work in a small town and can't leave the building in case the s hits the fan.  I ask the Police Officers get me stuff some times but my choices are Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's, or the convenience store.  I told the guys to watch out for when my cravings start!! "Control to unit 404, I NEED PICKLES!! YES This is and Emergency!!"

As far as sleeping I haven't had much trouble lately except for when there's roadwork going on outside my window.  Jackhammers are such a soothing way to fall asleep... night shift problems!

  • Night shift nurse here----Haven't had it really effect anything sleep-wise so far...? I wear an eye mask. I'm also convinced that being a good 'napper' makes working nights easier. Really dreading having to switch to days when LO comes along though. Husband is a chef and works at night, too. No way we're going to be able to get someone to watch LO until midnight!
