Has anyone had the MaterniT21 test yet??

Hi I am 10.5 weeks and scheduled for this test tomorrow (I'm 37 and already have a child with a disability). I am a bit worried. Can anyone offer their experiences with this so my heart can stop slamming? Thanks

Looks like I might be getting it (I find out at my 10.5 week appt for sure).  What are you worried about?  The results?  The actual test is just a blood draw, right?

Everyone knows someone who got false positives for different conditions and then baby was born fine. At least in my world lol.

I had this done with my last pregnancy.  It's actually 99. something accurate because it's testing the DNA in your blood.  Whereas the other tests, you are more likely to have false positives.  It is just a blood draw and then I had to wait a week for the results (I've heard others had to wait almost two weeks).  Probably the worst, scariest week of my pregnancy!!  It can also tell you the sex of the baby, which was nice to get so early on!  Although, it was strange to have someone on the phone say "It's a boy!"  I felt like it was good information to have early on.  I'm having multiplies this time, so I don't know if they still do it.  But if they do, I will do it again.

Like @jaceyannie said, it's not 100% accurate, so hopefully if something does show up your doctor makes it clear that's it's not definite, but a risk.  But yes, it's scary.  I'm hoping to get it because the NT scan is the alternative and the odds of accuracy are significantly lower there.  That would create more stress for me, personally.

I had it with my son and loved it! If my insurance covers it this time (different insurance) than I'll do it again. I don't like surprises and it was nice knowing everything was good so early on. Plus I found out he was a boy by 14 weeks!

I had it done with my last pregnancy because I was 39.  Like @jaceyannie said it is very simple but waiting was the longest week.  I was pregnant with twins, which they don't typically tell the sex with, but my twins were identical so I found out they were boys. Everything was normal, which is was great to know that so early on.

I had one last pregnancy and it was painless and I actually forgot about it until I got the "all's good" call.

I'll have it again this time. They will draw the blood on 11/19.

I'm definitely planning on getting it, because I want that reassurance as early as possible. It is very, very accurate (not 100%, but pretty darn close!) so you shouldn't be too worried about false positives. That is not the case for the older screening tests, which combined NT measurement with a couple markers from mom's blood (the so-called "quad screen" or "triple screen").

Can you be too far long for this test?

I have a question: If they discover your baby is positive for something, what can they do? Is there really any treatments they can do in utero? Does it help with a safer delivery? I need to decide on testing before my next appt but I don't want to do the tests if all I'll do is worry about possible problems the rest of my pregnancy and not be able to be proactive about it.

@meggyme I'm having this test next week. My doctor said the reason to have the test is to either make the choice to have an abortion or prepare yourself for a child with issues.

My doc didn't mention that test but did tell me that I have to go for a perinatal ultrasound next appointment (close to 12 weeks mark).

I think these kinds of tests are useful not so much to offer any treatments in utero, but to a) give parents an idea of if the child might have Down's or other chromosomal abnormalities and a chance to terminate should they feel that's what they wanted to do, b) give people who like to plan time to prepare for the needs of a child with these disorders, and c) if they know the baby has Down's or another type of disorder, they may suggest you deliver in a specific hospital (e.g. one with a NICU) because there may be some complications associated with births of babies like this. That's what I've heard, anyway!

I'm having the Panorama test done next week-- I'll be 9w2d. I don't have reason to think I'm at risk (only 30), but my doctor suggested it and it does give peace of mind-- or helps you to make decision/prepare.

From what I can tell, this is the best summary of these types of tests.  I had one last time, and have an appointment to get it done in two weeks.  I loved the super HD U/S.  Plus,, they took lots of measurements, so I was pretty confident that eveything was fine before I left.  It still felt great to get the official phone call.

I'm having it done on the 24th as I'll be 35 when the baby arrives. I'll also have the NT scan at 12 wks. I'm kind of excited to know Bc then I'll be able to enjoy the pregnancy and worry less. But I'm trying to stay on the optimistic side that this is just ruling out issues. Keep us updated and GL!
