I am not. Aesthetics are no reason to risk something really horrible.
I grew up in Illinois, and the sale of bumpers is illegal there, so nobody I know really expects you to use them.
If you're worried about the possibility of limbs, etc., getting stuck between bars, they now offer a mesh guard for that. Still not as safe as nothing, but much safer than a bumper.
We put them on our twins' cribs when they were older. Maybe around a year old. At that point they were rolling around a lot and smacking their heads on the bars and they were old enough that most of the risk had subsided. Pretty soon they were working the ties out and pulling them down so we took them off. The bumpers were kind of ugly and a pain when changing sheets so I was glad to see them go.
I would definitely not put them on for an infant. The infant isn't going to hurt himself rolling into the sides of the crib, but can get stuck and suffocate. If you want something for your baby to look at, get a good mobile with the hangy things facing down at the baby.
I used the mesh ones with my daughter and will do the same this time. They aren't very pretty but they worked. We took them out once she started standing up in her crib.
I purchased the mesh ones but am not sure if I will be using them yet or not! They are a lot thicker than I thought they would be even though they are mesh. Definitely won't be using the traditional ones
I used (still use) the breathable mesh bumpers for my son. He is notorious for getting his chunky legs stuck between the bars and twisting himself around, screaming trying to get loose. I'll be using them again with baby girl.
I received bumpers that was included in the bedding set but will ONLY use them as decoration. When DD has to sleep in the crib I'm taking them off. We have a bassinet for the first few months.
No bumpers for us the risk isn't worth the reward. Even if baby gets stuck and at the absolute worst injures a limb it is far better than possible suffocation imho. We didn't use them with ds and he never got stuck. We don't use pacifiers so that's not an issue either.
Our bedding set didn't even come with them, they were, however, available separately.
The AAP advises against using bumpers. Here's some good info on safe sleep and the AAP's recommendations.
I used mine briefly, when my son was nearly 1, after several nights of me getting no sleep due to multiple binky losses, I caved in desperation, as he then found it himself... It was such a short lived phase, I never made it to buy mesh ones before he stopped using binkies a week or so later. Lol
We didn't use them with our first and we won't with our second. We did use rail covers for when they start chewing on the tops of the rails to not only protect the crib, but the baby. My son managed to chew pieces OFF the crib, so they are well worth it.
Ok I seriously had NO IDEA bumpers were unsafe!! This is the type of thing I'm truly thankful for when it comes to this board. Why would they sell them if they are dangerous I don't understand? Anyway, I'll be taking mine off now when baby does transition to crib. Thanks everyone

This. I have them on the crib now, as babes will be sleeping in his Halo the first few months. Once we move him to the crib they will be removed.
No bumpers, and no crib skirts for us. We had an incident when my son was 8 months old. An electrical outlet caught on fire in the middle of the night and his skirt and bumper by the wall went up in flames. Hubby got DS out of there so fast. There was little damage done and baby was unharmed. But I will never again use them. We also keep LO in our room for the first year. Call me paranoid.
I have the regular bumpers that came with my crib set on there now for decoration, will switch to my mesh ones by the time he's born or in the crib, as bassinet will be used for the first while
I didn't even buy a matching bed set type thing. I bought sheets that I like and small blankets for the car set or any time I might need to cover him. For sleep time he will go on his back with a wearable blanket/will be swaddled. I've bought a few in different thicknesses! I didn't see the point in spending money on things that could be potentially dangerous for the baby!
LO was never too attached to his paci, so he didn't cry when it fell out of the crib. My friend used the 'paci sprinkling' method. She put 3-4 paci's in different parts of the crib so if one fell out her son might find another one.
No bumpers here. My son is 2 and he still sleeps in his crib with no blanket or anything. We live in a warm climate. We used wearable blankets when he was little. At some age (maybe 9 months?) we put a very small toy in the very corner of the crib with a binky in front of it, so he had that if he woke up. We still leave the toy there, but otherwise nothing else in the crib except him!
I live in IL and I have seen them for sale. Didn't know they were illegal.
Yeah, I bought them in Illinois, so I don't know how they can be illegal here. But, since buying them, I've read too many people saying they're not safe, so we're not going to use them anyway. Maybe when she's older.
