Ovulating later on Clomid

Hi! I am day 14 with symptoms of a possible O, but my u/s today only had follicles measuring at 11mm & 9mm. Is it possible to O late? My FF says I won't O for 2-3 more days & I got a my first flashing smiley on my opk yesterday & again today. I'm just wondering if I should get my hopes up or if I'll have to way until I see my RE in two weeks to see where we go. Hope you're all having a better start to your weekend!

Your RE should be continuning to monitor you until O. 18mm iis consider a mature follicle, so it looks like you still have a bit to go before those are mature. Did you trigger (or are you)??
  • Yeah, it's definitely not near 18 but it could grow if I don't O for 3-4 more days. In the past I've had 35 day cycles & O'd later...but they always do u/s on day 14. I just didn't know if I should rule myself out this cycle mentally & emotionally. I'm still temping & got another flashing smiley. No trigger since the follicles weren't large enough. Thanks for your input

  • Will you go back for more monitoring ultrasounds since you weren't ready?   My experience with Clomid without a trigger shot was that I ovulated at the same time I normally did without Clomid (CD19-20), so if your cycles are normally 35 days, you may not ovulate without a trigger shot before your normal O day.

First ultrasound: TWO beautiful little heartbeats!!
Harmony: negative; level 2: babies look great and are boy/girl! :)
  • No I'm not scheduled to go back. Is that weird? The nurse pretty much ruled me out for the cycle & I didn't see my RE; I'll go back day 28 for my clomid check & a follow up. Thanks!
  • Yeah, that's really weird.  I typically would have 2-3 monitoring ultrasounds and then be told to trigger and when to have TI.  I'd call for clarification.

  • Thanks @emsmama15! I'll give them a call tomorrow :)
  • I usually have 34-37 day cycles non medicated and when I was temping, I ovulated around cd 16-19. My 3 Clomid IUI cycles were all monitored and I did trigger shots but the first one I didn't ovulate until cd 16. He upped my dose from 50mg to 100 mg and those next 2 cycles were both cd 14 ovulation.
I am surprised they wouldn't have you come back in another day or 2 to check for follicle growth. Are they doing bloodwork too or just ultrasound monitoring?
  • No bloodwork yesterday but I do normally get it done, it's usually the day 28 appt.
  • You need bloodwork around O time to check for mature follicles and another blooddraw 7DPO to check progesterone. Is this an RE or an OB who "specializes" in fertility??
  • It's on RE! This is my 4th cycle of clomid and I haven't O'd except once which resulted in a BFP and then MC. So since I didn't O on the other rounds, maybe that's why I've never done 7dpo check? My routine has been day 28, RE examines me, blood work & then waiting for AF if there's no BFP. Then back in day 14 etc. hmmm, I'll call tomorrow & see.

The only way to confirm is O is by temping and ultrasound/progesterone bloodwork. Most REs rely on ultrasound and bloodwork to confirm. It doesn't appear Clomid is working for you. I would be demanding another drug. Seems to be fairly common around that most OBs move onto a new protocol after 3 rounds (even if they worked well).

I would consider the possibility of a new RE too.
