Urge to chew on sponges!!!

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I can't resist chewing on bath sponges.. this is ridiculous! I got up at 3 am just to go to Walmart to grab one! Anyone else having these strange urges?!

You need to call your dr if you haven't already. It sounds like you have PICA.

^^this. It happens to some women. PICA (the urge to eat non-food items) definitely warrants a call to the doc.

When dogs chew on sponges, they get stuck in their intestines and warrant a foreign body surgery to remove them because they can't pass them. A little "food" for thought.

Yes, pregnancy PICA all the way. Don't do it and call the doc.

This happens to me sometimes but with rags.. definitely going to ask my doctor about it

Good news, doctor said as long as I don't ingest it I'm ok lol also as long as it's clean and not be out too long bc of bacteria..

Some sponges have anti-microbial or anti-bacterial properties built in (with added chemicals). This seems unsafe to me.

I have a hard time believing that medical doctor would actually say yes, chew on sponges!

The contain chemicals that probably shouldn't be injested. And no, just because you aren't swallowing pieces of sponge doesn't mean you aren't investing the chemicals.

Nope. No doctor would say it's okay to chew on sponges. I call MUD on this one. Any doctor worth their salt would have run a panel for any vitamin deficiencies you might have leading to Pica.

I had the urge to eat baking flour and it turns out I had an iron deficiency. My doctor ran tests when I told her.
