I tried searching about it on the board but not sure if I missed it, or no one has posted about it. So if that is the case...i am sorry if it's a double post.
Today I had my prenatal appointment where they went over my A/S ultrasound from last week. Well, our son is more than healthy and in fact measuring a week ahead. But they found something odd with the placenta. Apparently there are two placentas attached in the middle, one is smaller than the other and in my case my son's umbilical cord is attached to the smaller one. Their main concern is that as he gets bigger he may not retrieve the amount of nutrients needed, meaning that I may have to deliver early. They didn't give me a name for it or tell me how it happened, other than the fact it isn't that common. And she's maybe seen one or two cases of it.
I tried googling it to see if I was able to find a more definitive answer or at least what it was called. The only thing that seems similar to my case is a succenturiate placenta? Has anyone heard of this, or may have gone through a similar situation?
Our doctor reassured us that it's nothing to be worried about, I just have to keep going for follow up ultrasounds to monitor his growth for the mean time.
He is already a week ahead of his game, and quite the active little ninja. So the doctor said that's a plus on our part and everything else looks normal and healthy
Re: 2 placentas and 1 baby? how bizarre....
Now I've got that random 90s song stuck in my head, how bizarre...
And thank you! My next ultrasound should be more informative once they get a closer look. I am very curious to see and hear more that's for sure.
@Melodyags i read up on that one as it was one of the other cases that came up as well. I'm going to mention both and see what she says when I go back in a couple weeks.
Thanks ladies.
I was assured that, although rare, there shouldn't be too much of an issue at delivery! (I too went home to try and research about it but ended up getting myself worked up and decided that she knew more about it than I do, and I trust her and any doctor that should look after me!)
Im glad to hear things are looking healthy and normal, I hope things carry on well for your LO.
