unpopular opinions

I didn't see one, so does anyone have any they would like to throw out here?

Re: unpopular opinions

  • Dd is 6 months and i still swaddle her and i am yet to find a reason not to! She stopped rolling over all together and she never rolled over at night. We are both happy and get better sleep with her swaddled but people keep criticizing me over it. I know it's better for her motor skills to sleep without a swaddle but she seems to be doing fine and i'm a working mom who needs her sleep!
  • My unpopular opinion is.. I no longer like the fb page because they were judging my country's laws on car seats hahaha it's the same people on here but still :S
  • Loading the player...
  • I am not on the fb page :) where are you from? I think the biggest difference in car seats is between north America and the UK in regards to the chest clip?

  • I'm in Australia and we have forward facing seats from 6 months old .. I had a few people judging even after I explained that's what we do posting articles and things about deaths .. Let's be honest everything you do in life has risks
  • The fb is actually pretty good but there's less you would post because people can see your face and name obviously. I just got annoyed that I was pretty much told my country has the wrong rules by only a few people because all countries have different rules and regulations others don't understand
  • I get where they are coming from with more and more studies showing the safety of extended rear facing. But by your countries laws you are not doing anything illegal.

I am Canada and at the moment our law is one year and 22lb. And when we hit that mark I fully plan flipping my LO around.
  • I'm confused Khaleesi123, a lot of moms on the FB page have FF seats already. I don't think anyone tried to make anyone feel bad about that. Are you talking about the right group?
  • I don't plan to flip my son around any time soon, but I do wonder if anyone has studied the cognitive benefits of facing forward instead of staring at the seat back... Seems awfully boring.
  • I can't wait to flip baby's car seat, i think car rides will be a lot easier once that happens but people kept scaring me about it! I honestly thought it happens at 6 months then i found research that said they recconed keeping it up till 3 years! I never met a 3 year old who could but up with staring at a seat!

The weight limit of my car seat is 13 kilos, i'll wait for that or for when she turns 1, whichever happens first
  • I would never judge you based on your country's laws @khaleesi123 however research does show that rear facing for as long as possible is safer. Where I live it is illegal to forward face until at least 1 year (and if I recall the child has to be a certain height and weight).

@mars8k and @marijaa333 - my nephew is 3 years old and continues to rear face. He has NEVER once complained about it. They have done 8 hour road trips and he's been perfectly content. My sister has ensured he has activities and toys to play with while they drive. He doesn't watch tv/use screen time really so he's not even doing that. I've also seen (not know them personally) in one of my Facebook groups of moms who still have their 4 or 5 year olds rear facing.

We are still using our bucket seat at the moment. But once we switch to a convertible car seat we will be purchasing one that has the highest weight and height limits we can find so that DS can remain rear facing for as long as possible.
  • @lilsunflowermomma it was a a few weeks ago I deleted it though .. Most people were just explaining how their laws say till 1 or 2 years because of research and what not but a couple were rude and telling me I shouldn't put my child in danger like that so I just deleted it because I was annoyed that this cute picture of my daughter in her car seat I wanted to share with everyone turned so negative :-/
  • I remember that post but I don't recall anyone being rude but maybe I didn't see the whole thing. Sorry you had a bad experience! I would think that whoever said those things were genuinely concerned about your LOs safety and not trying to personally attack you. I love the FB group and think it's been soooo helpful since it was started.

My son is still rear-facing and I don't think he gets bored and highly doubt there are any cognitive issues associated with it..as long as baby isn't in the car for hours and hours a day obviously! He has toys and we have a mirror set up back there that he loves looking out of. Better safe than sorry IMO.

My dd is 6mo now and b gets bored not to mention hates not seeing anyone so as soon as she's old enough I'm switching. I drive am SUV and I'm a safe driver. I think some people go overboard with safety and become overbearing. I want my dd safe but as much as I clean and protect her, she still licks things from the floor and anywhere else. All I can do is prepares her for life but make it fun instead of stifling along the way.

My unpopular opinion is when people tell me my 6mo old dd is too clingy because she doesn't like when I leave the room and likes being held. How is a baby too clingy. It makes me annoyed and once I even told a woman that's why her kid is detached and has a higher risk of being a sociopath. Not nice I know but don't criticize my baby for loving her mommy more than anyone. ..... except daddy of course lol

.. You know what that reminds me! I damn right hate it when I'm over someone's house and LO just wakes up and doesn't want to be put down because she has only just woke up and people call her spoilt.. I'm she just woke up in a different house then usual she doesn't want to go right to socialising and playing on her own. Hate people calling her spoilt for small things she doesn't do often
