So I had awful back labor and pain with my first daughter but it didn't start till about 33 weeks. This one I have an AP and for the last 2 weeks my hips and back have been excruciating. Anyone else? And any tips to relieve the pain besides sitting on hands and knees are MORE than welcome! It's making it really hard to exercise LOL!
I'm almost 20 weeks with my first and I've been up all night with never ending throbbing pain in both hips/joints. Only get relief when on my back, or when I'm moving. I found that using a maternity pillow between my knees made it so much worse. I've also had back aches since the first trimester... I haven't taken Tylenol so far but warm showers and rubbing my back have helped. I have found nothing to help with the hip pains though.
Same!! Mostly if I sit too long no matter what service or position, if I stand all day it doesn't hurt as bad but then my feet are killing me. We just can't seem to win...
I had a prenatal massage a few weeks ago and it helped immensely. The back pain started a lot sooner with this pregnancy... Probably doesn't help I'm lugging around a toddler this time too.
I got a warming pack and that helped as long as it was on. Definitely need to find a longer term thing! I wish prenatal massage was covered under my insurance! I had them with my first and they were AMAZING. Thank you for so many replies!
Prenatal massage all the way. For 3 days I was in excruciating hip pain. One prenatal massage and I've been feeling great ever since! It's been about 3 weeks with no more hip pain, but now my back has started hurting. I try to alternate between sitting and standing.
It's more than likely the relaxin hormone you are feeling. Some woman get it really bad while others not so much. I've been having a problem since 8 weeks and my chiropractor told me the pain doesn't go away after delivery if you breastfeed. Warm showers help, I was told to use a body pillow and have some of the pillow between my knees when laying on my side with knees bent up closer to me. Yoga helps, although some stretches hurt my back really bad. Sometimes when laying in bed I will lay on my back for a few minutes just to stretch my hips for a little and then turn back on my side. One more thing I do, I'm still comfortable on my stomach but have one leg straight and one leg bent. That helps stretch my hips and relieve some pain in my back. I'll usually switch sides after a while to stretch evenly....these are just some things I've noticed help relieve some of my pain.
Prenatal massages are awesome! My chiropractor also told me to not cross my legs when I sit because it is putting major pressure on one side of the hip and it makes back pain worse. I also bought a little $40 massage pillow from Amazon and use it at work. I'm always sitting in front of a computer so that thing really helps to relieve some pain.
Uhh why wouldn't the pain go away if you breastfeed??? That makes 0 sense. I had low back/hip pain with my first - prenatal yoga, massage, baths and physio helped. I started physio at 28 weeks last time and 10 weeks this time.. not fun. My physiotherapist said at some point I'll likely need a pregnancy brace. I didn't have a huge bump last time (gained 15 lbs) so that really helped. I my back issues resolved themselves almost immediately after birth. I breastfed and had some neck/should discomfort until I found a good ergonomic position.
Definitely massage. Heating pads help too for day to day. I have one of those microwave ones and it was a HUGE relief with my sciatic pain the first time around. Breaking it out tonight after today's leaf raking session...
Also, for anyone wanting a prenatal massage, check with area massage schools! My sister just became a massage therapist and had to have a certain number of hours doing prenatal massages. Her school had such a hard time coming across pregnant women that they gave them away for free just so they could get the hours they needed. Schools are also really good about having discount prices if not free!

My sciatic has been horrible the past week. About a month or so ago, I had it on my left side for over a month. I was about to go to a chiropractor, then it dissipated. Now I have it on my right. It's getting OLD, FAST!!! I need a massage!
I've been having intense pain in my sacrum for the past 4 weeks and it is aggravated by walking and standing for too long. I wasn't able to sleep because my mattress was putting too much pressure on my hips so I got a memory foam topper and now I can sleep a lot more comfortably. I tried heating pads and ice packs, they both just made me really stiff and didn't help with the pain. I recently got an SI belt from Amazon and I can finally do my grocery shopping and housework without being in excruciating pain afterwards. If nothing else is helping I would definitely recommend getting an SI belt to stabilize your hips. They aren't pretty, but they work.
@jcarder13 I will have to search for one. For me it's my sacrum and hips as well and heat helps a bit but it's only when it's on so once I take it off back to the pain. I've been sleeping with pillows along my body lol I take up half a king size bed LOL. It is definitely unbearable and has had me in tears more than a few times. Good thing he is cute lol
Wanted to update! I found a heating pad that has a 2hr time limit and shuts off and it has long strings you can tie to keep it in place. I fell asleep with it on then put it back on when I went to use the restroom in the middle of the night and it's the first pain free morning I've had in a long time! This with surrounding myself with pillows like before seems to be my key! Thank you everyone! Still wishing I could get chiropractic care but I know it's not an option for us so this will do!
I've had sciatica from a while now but PT , especially squats helped but the best thing by far is wearing completely flat shoes. No heel whatsoever. I really notice how much this helps when I think " oh I'll wear my boots today!" ( which have a 1/4 inch heel) ...and I very quickly regret it when I'm wishing for a cane.
