3rd Trimester

How far along were you when you heard the heartbeat at home for the first time?

I can Hear the Heartbeat at the Doctor's office, but I heard that as you enter the third trimester there's all these other possibilities to hear the beat like dopplers and this app I found that actually turns your phone into a doppler (Babyscope) and even just a stethoscope. so what are you using and how far along were you when it worked?

  • I'm not seeing where I would trust a phone app to hear a heartbeat. You're in the 3rd trimester. Soon you'll be able to listen to your baby's heartbeat anytime you want. :)

  • Heart a heartbeat at 9 weeks with a home doppler. I used it as more of a reassurance in the first trimester. I wouldn't bother buying anything if you are already in your third.
  • I bought a home doppler and started using it at 12 weeks. However, once I could feel baby moving I stopped using it because I no longer needed it as confirmation that he was ok. I can feel him all day, why would I need to hear him too? Like PP said, I used it for reassurance when I wasn't far along enough to feel him and doctors appointments were few and far between.

  • Got a home doppler at 9 weeks and was able to find it with some patience. Haven't used it since about 25 weeks when I felt kicks regularly.
  • I've been using a home doppler to hear HB since 11 weeks. I've heard a stethoscope usually works after 20 weeks.
  • I didn't know that people did this for fun. I don't think those apps are very reliable. Someone said it picked up a heart beat from her pillow and other things that definitely don't have heart beats. I've only actually hear my babies HB once. The other times they've used the US machine to measure the sound waves. I would try not to obsess over tracking babies HR it sounds like it will just be stressful to you both.
  • I don't see the point. By third trimester you already feel him moving around.
  • my husband has a regular stethoscope at home. I tried with that a few times but it yielded disappointing and ambiguous results. I hear her ever two weeks right now at checkups and that's great for me. I know she's ok because she wiggles so much.
