Zantac?!

So my pediatrician put my 10 week old on zantac three times daily for reflux. I am just curious to hear your experience with it? Side effects your Lo may have had? I have read a lot and there is both good and bad. I would prefer to hear positive experiences. I am just skeptical to give her any medicine altogether but don't want her to suffer. All is appreciated

My 3 month old daughter is also on Zantac and it has helped tremendously. Before the medicine, she cried when she ate and ate very little, spit up a lot of what she did eat. Now she eats regularly and has almost doubled what she eats in a day. She doesn't cry anymore when she eats and sleeps better, too. I hope this helps.

My son takes prevacid solutabs (similar to zantac) since he was a month and a half for reflux and he is doing so much better. I can tell he's's not in pain anymore and he sleeps much better.

My 12 week old daughter is on it currently. My older daughter was on it as well. We didn't find out my oldest was tongue and lip tied till she met with a pediatric dentist when she was around 2 (when I mentioned it to my MIL she informed me that my SIL had hers revised back in the 80s and my husband is also tongue/lip tied currently :P). My youngest just had a tongue and lip tie revision this afternoon. I'm hoping it will get us off the zantac once she relearns how to nurse. Zantac did what we needed to with my older daughter, but it is very weight-sensitive and babies can develop a tolerance to it. My older daughter ended up with several dosage changes due to reoccurrence of symptoms (i.e. pain) before she finally got off it at 11 1/2 months old. As for actual side effects of it, we've never noticed any, and I'm sure your LO will be fine taking it, and you will likely see symptoms improve fairly quickly. Just make sure you aren't relying just on the medication because it isn't a sure long-term fix. Not every baby with reflux is tongue-lip tied, but making sure to feed slowly, sleep them on an angle, keep them upright for 20-30 min after feedings (including MOTN), etc... can help also and may help get your LO off it sooner or at least require less dosage/medication changes.

My daughter is 3 months and has been on zantac since she was 5 weeks. She eats and sleeps very well and hardly cries anymore. The only negative side effect the doctor told us about was an increased chance of upper respiratory infections because zantac reduces stomach acid and stomach acid helps kill germs. She also sleeps on her stomach since that helps the reflux but if your daughter does well sleeping on her back, I would keep her that way since it's better for sids. I would just elevate the head of her crib and stick a rolled up blanket in a u shape under her legs. Unfortunately my daughter got used to sleeping on her stomach and won't sleep on her back. But she can roll over and lift her head so I'm not too concerned.

My 12 wk old has been on it since 6 weeks and it's been great for us. We do twice per day, though my pedi says we can do three times per day if we feel she needs it. It almost seems like she is happy to take it when it is time for it, like she knows it helps her.
