Working out - lost motivation

Well I am six weeks pregnant , and I prior to four weeks ago I was working out regularly . I'm tired , lost all motivation, and am often nauseated .

Is anyone else struggling with this?

I am Looking for motivation , inspiration....

Are there any other women that are successfully keeping it up during pregnancy !?

Re: Working out - lost motivation

  • Zero.  I have none.  I have a 5K in 2 weeks.  I'll be walking it.

  • Walking for more than a little bit stirs up the nausea. I used to walk the dog a ton but DH has had to take over because I just couldn't handle it anymore. Hoping to be able to get back into it once the nausea clears!
  • Shockingly my workouts are the one time my nausea stops, granted I've modified a lot, and it takes everything in me to start the workout but during and a couple hrs after I feel better. But some days my ass just stays on the couch. Do what you can mama, it might give you more energy or make you feel better:)

  • I was working out steadily till 6 weeks and had some bleeding. Then the Ms really ramped up so I have only been 2 times in two weeks. Coming from the girl who ran 3/4 times a week ugh!
  • I am such a lazy bum!!! DS was sick all last week and I did no exercise. Today, I was just too nauseous and lazy. I swore I would not get lazy this pregnancy and look what is happening to me. :((

  • I've been lazy too. I don't even have MS as an excuse. I went for a run yesterday and a 2 mile walk today, but 3 months ago I was doing Crossfit. I think part of my issue is that I'm no longer working out to lose weight and I know that I'm going to be gaining weight no matter what. It's hard to get motivated when I know I have no chance of looking my best.
  • I got up early on Friday to do a prenatal yoga video, thinking that it would quell my morning sickness. I finished my flow with some chakra-balanced dry heaving and ended up feeling so sick I couldn't go to work. Fail. I have ballet tomorrow night and I'm hoping I will be awake and un-nauseated enough to go. That class is the only time I've felt energized in the last couple of weeks.

  • I actually ran two half-marathons early in my last pregnancy. This time, blech. Walking up the stairs feels like a full workout. We do go to the gym, and I usually walk the track or do the water aerobics class. I can drop the kids off at the daycare for a couple hours there and get a bit of a break

  • I have been able to continue working out, although at a reduced intensity. Is this your first pregnancy? This is my second so maybe that is my motivation. I think working out last time made me feel better throughout my pregnancy but I also gained more than I would like so I'm motivated to continue my workouts this time!

  • I haven't worked out in about 4 weeks.  Slob here.

  • I had a bad week last week but an determine to get back in the game and so far this week, I have. 2 major motivations. First, during the workout and for a few hours after, I have no morning sickness! Second, I want to be the healthiest pregnant me possible. More comfortable pregnancy, easier labor, looking cuter in maternity clothes (remember, it will be warm when we are at our largest. No hiding behind bulky sweaters!) faster recovery and faster "bounce back" from baby body are all possible side effects of keeping up that (modified) workout routine! Don't give up!
  • We did a 6K walk over the weekend. I'm counting that as my workout for the first tri. :)

Hope you find some energy soon - but don't stress too much about it. Your body is doing a LOT right now - give yourself a bit of a break - maybe just do some walking and then when you feel better (closer to second tri) start getting back at it  :)

  • I work out so I can eat Wendy's, Taco Bell and Halloween candy.

  • I'm used to working out 6 times a week on average.  I was doing great until a few weeks ago keeping it up.  Last few weeks, I'm lucky if I make it through 3 workouts a week...the nausea is just overwhelming.  Do what you can, when you can.
  • I feel like all the energy has been sucked out of my body, so not too much exercising going on. I'm hitting a yoga class here and there and have walked a few times. It's totally normal to not have energy. Your little one is demanding a lot out of you right now. You may find you get a little more energy in a few weeks or later.

  • I hear this!! Over the summer I competed in Ironman triathlons....now I can't seem to get off the couch! I have no motivation and no energy. I keep telling myself that tomorrow I will get out the door. Getting back in shape after this baby is going to be hard.

Thank you for this wake-up call!! This had not crossed my mind.... Eek! Time to get my booty moving again!

  • I just keep reminding myself that I had the hardest time losing the last 10lbs with last pregnancy and I would say I 'halfass' worked out last time. I say this as I'm sitting on the couch eating a bag of popcorn, the only thing that sounds remotely good today!

  • I'm motivated to not gain too much weight. I don't want a 9 pound baby plus it's easier to lose if you don't gain too much to begin with. Working out definitely helps with that. I'm running 1-2 times per week and doing some yoga videos. I recommend forcing yourself to work out even if you feel like you have no energy- my energy is actually much better and I feel really good after a workout!
  • I've only worked out twice since finding out, I'm 7 weeks, I take advantage of any days I'm not super tired! You will have some soon!
  • I'm barely making it twice a week.  I think I feel more exhausted afterward if not more nauseated.

  • I feel the same but also finding exercise is helping the nausea. I am managing to run or swim most days but just at a much reduced pace than before :(

One if my friends was a pro triathlete and she trained through both her pregnancies. She said the first 3 months were hardest for her though and she had to reduce intensity quite a lot. So my plan is to keep things ticking over until 3 months then hopefully I'll have the energy to exercise properly after that!

  • I have had the same problem. My laziness is to the point that my athletic trainer stopped charging me for our sessions. we used to go at night after my daughter was in bed, but now I am asleep by 7:45! I do feel less nauseous after working out (when I actually go), but getting the energy and easing the queasiness to get through the workout has proved to be the hardest task, besides not telling family or co workers why I'm such a mess lately.
  • Feeling super lazy here at 6 weeks, but just keep reminding myself how much weight I gained with my first, and how badly I want to avoid it this time! Been doing Leslie Sansone walk at home videos, which range anywhere from 20 min to 50 minutes...so I can decide how lazy I want to be!
  • Laziness is EPIC! Barely entertaining the elliptical this week (7wks 2dys). Been focused on leg lifts & squats when I have low endurance.
A trick 1 used even before pregnancy was NO EXCUSES 15 squats every time I use the restroom...these days that's often! So by the end of the day you're at 80-100 squats before you know it!!!
  • 6+2 and I haven't done crap at all. Nothing, nada, and I have a really nice treadmill at my house so I have no excuses other than I'm tired and lazy.
