Bathtime Frequency

How often are you bathing your LOs? DS is three weeks old tomorrow, and I've been giving him baths daily and lathering him up with lotion! His skin isn't drying out or breaking out, so I think I can continue with this; however, somedays it would just be so much easier to skip his bath (he doesn't care for them), but then I feel bad even though I know they say you only need to bathe them a few times a week. Just curious what everyone else is doing. Thanks!

Re: Bathtime Frequency

  • I was bathing my daughter about twice a week at that age. If I did it more than that I wouldn't use soap.

  • My little one is just shy of 2 weeks. We were told that when we can start up baths they should only be 2-3 times per week ( till baths can start just sponge baths with warm water wash cloth). No soap or lotion till after at least 2 weeks.
  • My LO is 9 weeks and I bathe him every other day. At that age I did 2 baths a week. Thayer really shouldn't have a daily bath for the 1st few months, skin is so sensitive and it's not like they are sweating.
  • We did 2x/week until she started to like baths around 6 weeks, and then we moved to every other day. When she started daycare we moved to every night...lots of germs to wash off plus she enjoys it so it's now part of her bedtime routine.

They definitely don't need one every day. If it relaxes your baby for bed, you can do it more often but I wouldn't use soap any more than 2-3x a week.
  • We were doing it twice a week, but when we do the LO passes out and sleeps great. I am going to try to do it more often so we get more easier bedtimes in the future.
  • My LO IS 5w and she sweats when she gets really upset/crying and she sweats in her sleep so I bath her or sponge bath her every day (I swap it around each day). One day I just use warm water and the next day I may use soap. I've noticed if I don't clean her everyday or every other day due to her sweating she can get that oh-so-known baby milk smell that can be a little sour...

Why is she sweating? Is she overdressed?
