3rd Trimester

In from another board... Have a question

Hello ladies, I'm popping in from another board.... Trying to conceive. My husband and I have been trying to move back home and his company will most likely move us back (and on to a project close to our home) as soon as his current project is done... In July...

We are currently trying to conceive but are worried about how hard it will be trying to switch doctors in the third or second trimester... if we get pregnant.

We hate to turn the opportunity down assuming that we will be pregnant, because we have been trying with no luck.

So my question is this... How hard is it to switch ob 's or midwives in the second and third trimester...

His company sends people to pack and pay for the move, so no issues there. Work isn't an issue, as we can afford for me to not work. Insurance would not be switching, because it is with the same company. We are wrestling with the idea of holding off... Could I pick your brains on this? I have an appointment with my ob gyn next week and intend to pick her brain as well on the matter... But am eager to hear if anyone else has been in a situation where they switched during their pregnancy. Thanks for your help

  • As long as you don't mind it, research your docs ahead of time and schedule an apt for the week you get there and you will be fine

  • I had to recently switch doctors/OBs just last Thursday, and I'm 7 1/2 months along. It wasn't very complicated at all. I just had to do the basic paperwork, since this OB/Doctor also works with the local hospital! So an additional hour and a half of paperwork and processing happened for me! But it is doable. Many women sometimes HAVE to switch doctors. It happens. :) I agree with Wicked, though. Do your researc, and schedule ahead of time. That will make things MUCH easier for you!
  • You'll probably have to shop around, so to speak, and talk to different offices that you'd be likely to use once you move. Some offices won't take you after a certain point in your pregnancy and some will. Personally I moved after 16 weeks into my first pregnancy and it wasn't a big deal. It was a pain to get my records faxed over, but it didn't turn into a huge fuss.
  • Thank you so much :) this eased my fear. I researched the midwifery center I'd go to if we got to move back home and found out their deadline (28wks). I'm going to have to battle all my records being transferred anyway... Pregnant or not, as I'm a cancer survivor. I kid you not... I keep a medical record BINDER with all my labs... Sigh. Anyway, thank you!! We will go for it next cycle! At least if I continue to get bfns while we live here I'll have a silver lining...

    Thanks!!

  • A friend of mine switched her doctor and hospital and 36 weeks, because her husband got a job at the new hospital and so the delivery was going to be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper by switching. She had no issues at all. If you are pregnant when you move, I would just contact the new office as soon as you know about the move.
