Stopping milk production

My LO is five months now and although I would love to continue BF she has preferred the bottle since around 2 months. She normally only takes to the breast in the morning. So I have been pumping about 4 times a day since which is so time consuming and inconvenient. She also has a milk protein allergy and cutting dairy out my diet for the last 6 weeks has been another challenge. I have been cutting back pumping sessions and the amount i express, & am currently pumping 2x/day getting about 3-6 oz total. I started using cabbage compresses today and will be getting sage tincture tomorrow to help with stopping milk production. However I'd like to hear any other advice/tips on this process. Please share

Re: Stopping milk production

  • Have you considered taking medication to stop milk production? My DS will be 6 months next week and I've exclusively pumped since day 1 (6.5 weeks in ICU and he refused the nipple). Still pumping 4 - 5 times per day, but will be stopping next week as I'm going back to work. Will be taking medication on order for this to go smoothly. Unless someone has other alternatives.

  • Take decongestants, should help dry you out.
  • You can take Zyrtec. It will dry you up
  • DO THIS GRADUALLY!!! If you pump 4 times a day, start pumping 3, then 2 then 1 until it stops. I haven't breastfed in about a month. My work schedule is,way too complex. My doctor told me that if I just quit, then my ducts would clog and that'll cause huge problems!!!
