Sleep walking husband

My husband has occasionally talked in his sleep and I always found it entertaining- however tonight I'm a bit worried.... Babe was sleeping in the basinet on my side of the bed and I had just woken as I heard her rustling. I then saw that my husband was walking around from his side of the bed, carrying his pillow as if baby was in his arms. He was rocking it and said to me"here, do you want to try?" As if baby was crying and was having difficulty in getting it to settle. He then put the pillow gently down on the bed and that's when I woke him up. I told him that the baby wasn't there then he panicked until he looked around and saw her in the basinet. He went back to bed

This is obviously due to sleep deprivation- I'm worried that he could pick up the baby without me realizing and doing something with her? We have a staircase right outside of our bedroom door- should I be closing and/or locking the door now?

Re: Sleep walking husband

  • My brother did the same thing when he had his first due to sleep deprivation. It's can be really scary. Sorry you are dealing with this. Make sure he is taking care of himself too and see a sleep specialist if he doesn't improve after a few good nights sleep.

  • I have no experience with this so have no advice (sorry) but think you are right to be concerned. Agree with PP on seeking out a sleep specialist. Good luck!

  • Maybe send DH into another room to sleep for a few nights, or encourage him to nap while your awake so you can keep an eye on him.
  • My husband did something similar. All of a sudden when LO started fussing he got out of bed and started to swaddle the sheets into a ball on his side. I look over at him and say what are you doing? He looks up and says, "where did the baby go?" I couldn't help but laugh as I pointed to the now in my arms baby that hasn't quite finished fussing yet. I told him to go back to bed and I'd do the diaper check.
  • My husband sleep talks/ walks really badly. Right before we got pregnant he was diagnosed with sleep apnia and got a c-pap machine. So now he is tethered by the machine if he does sleep walk haha. But for the most part the machine helps him stay out cold.
