Linea line - is this accurate for baby's gender

I have heard from that the linea nigra- the line that runs up your abdomen can determine gender...I've heard that the if the line runs above your belly button, you're having a boy...if it only runs up to your belly button you're having a girl...

We are not finding sex out just wondering how accurate this is ? X

  • Name certainly suits
  • I'm pregnant with a girl and the line is above and below my belly button. It has more to do with genetics than anything else.

  • Thanks I will do x
  • Not accurate at all. My line has been only under my belly button, I have 2 boys and 2 girls.

No. There is no way to predict gender or sex. You can find sex out with a scan or find out shortly after your water breaks. I don't have a line at all. None. Just a big belly. It's because I'm pale with a pink complexion so I've read. I likely won't get one :( And FYI, where you carry is not a predictor of sex either. It has to do with how in shape your stomach is. Carrying high? Your abs are stronger. Carrying low? Weaker abs. Cravings also have no known correlation with sex either.

Edited because spelling is hard and autocorrect is a jerkoff for exploiting that. Also added more science which is not as hard as spelling today for some reason.
  • I never had a line with either kid....
  • I don't have that line at all. I'm also fortunate enough to not have stretch marks right now, and I'm at 32 weeks. Which MIGHT change later on, though. :)) Which I'm fine with. :) All of which is odd, because the dark line and stretch marks are in my genetics, and both my aunt and my mom got them both at 20-25 weeks along!
  • So what does the "theory" say about no line? It's only binary - to belly button or above - no choice for no line. I had no line. DS is a boy.
  • I don't think its accurate

I didn't have a single stretch mark until the last couple weeks with both kids :( But they went away shortly after the kids were born.
  • It's always 50% correct, 100% of the time.
  • I having a boy and my line is both above and below. I did do the baking soda test when I was about 14 weeks and it 'said' it was a boy. We did it for fun but in my case it was correct! Gender predictions are fun but I wouldn't rely on any of them.
  • The old wives tales are fun (we didn't find out the sex of baby, either), but they are just that - old wives tales. Have fun playing guessing games with them, by all means. We sure did. But don't make any plans based on their results.

Just for fun... mine came above the belly button, and I had a boy
