IVF with PGS

Hi everyone - looking for support from others who have gone through a similar situation as us.  We've been going through the IVF process and have done PGS with our embryos.  We've now done 3 transfers (1 fresh, 2 FET) and all are BFN - I'm so disappointed since I thought doing PGS would help increase our chances.  Anyone else gone through something similar?  How many cycles did it take for BFP?

Re: IVF with PGS

  • hey @jenishungry!
I haven't got experience with transferring following PGS, but we did have it done and you are right - the pregnancy rates with PGS testing are supposed to be much higher (I have seen as high as 70%) so I can only imagine how frustrating/disappointing your experience has been. Has your RE given you feed back on the failed cycles? It would be good to discuss it with him/her before your next attempt (which will hopefully be your BFP!!!)
Best of luck and FX for you!

  • Hi @2legbaby - we've tried different things on the cycles (non-medicated, medicated, ERA testing to determine optimal transfer window) but my doctor doesn't know why we haven't been successful.  Thanks for your note, it helps to know there are others who can kind of understand what I'm going through!  Best of luck to you!!
  • Hey, I am in the same spot as you. We have done three frozen transfers with PGS tested embryos which resulted in 2 chemical pregnancies and one negative. Our only known issue is my husbands azoospermia and I got pregnant from our first IVF cycle at a different clinic. After our third failure my doc decided to do a hysteroscopy on me(which came back totally normal) and did an endometrial scratch while she was in there. She's also adding Lovenox to our next cycle just in case it helps. I had an suppression check appointment with her today and she said she doesn't think there is any big issue, we just haven't gotten the right embryo at the right time(even with PGS testing there are still things that can wrong with an embryo) and she reassured me that and truly thinks things are gonna work out for us very soon. So, if there is hope for me, there is hope for you!
  • Hi @sophielou2 - our doctor hasn't mentioned Lovenox - what is that for?

Our doctor said something similar, that even with PGS, there are still potential defects with the embryo…

I hope your next cycle works out for you!!
  • @jenishungry .... I have had one unsuccessful round of IVF with PGS testing. We are moving on to our second round soon. We have one more embryo rose from that same PGS testing. We transferred 2 embryos. It's disappointing. I hope you get that positive soon. We did a FET the first time and will do the same with the second.
  • It can help with blood clotting and immune disorders. It doesn't appear that I have either of those but my doc says it won't hurt to try. I hope things work out for you soon, too!

@jenishungry I'm sorry for your struggle. There are some larger, more recent studies that have found the link between PGS testing and increased pregnancy rates to be inconclusive for women under 38. If you have had PGS testing and 3 subsequent failures, I would start asking about implantation issue and immune issue testing (like @sophielou2 had).

Despite that, I haven't seen in here the other option for why it might not be working. Not all REs are created equal and success rates can swing wildly from one office to another. For instance, PGS testing can damage embryos in labs that aren't extremely proficient. (Our office has great success rates for our age range, but only does PGS on 19% of fresh cycles. Despite how large the office is, that's not a lot of practice for their embryologists. My DH worried they wouldn't be skilled enough and that factored into our decision to opt out. True or not, we worried about it since they don't provide the number of PGS cycles that are successful and got cagey when we asked.)

If they can't give you a reason for repeat failure, it may be the office your at, not you. Often we are trained by infertility to look at faults in ourselves, but if you think they made an error or their SART statistics are noticeably lower than average, I'd say try a new RE before you blame yourself. My suggestion:Trust your gut, even though you've been told repeatedly it's the problem. ;)

  • thanks ladies for your sharing and your support.  we met with our RE yesterday and decided to do a natural cycle next time.  we've done all sorts of testing and all the results were normal, so my gut is telling me it's better to let my body do what it naturally does rather than trying to control it with meds.  i hope my gut is right!!
