Post C section belly pain

So over the last couple days my belly has been getting sore. I had a c section 10/19. For a while it was surgery pains but now it almost feels like a side ache only across my whole belly. I'm not showing any signs of infection, I pass gas normally, I have a bowel movement about every other day but that's getting better. Maybe it's things shrinking and going back to normal? Anyone else?

Re: Post C section belly pain

  • Me!! I had a repeat c on 9/23. The last few days I've had the exact feeling you are describing. Let's hope your theory on shrinking is right!

I will say with my first I had a lot more tenderness and there were still times (almost 4 years later) that I'd have some random soreness.

As long as your incision looks normal and you don't have fever or other signs of infection, it's likely just part of the healing process.

  • I also had a c section on 10/19 and like you everything is normal (incision looks good, passing gas, etc.) but I still have random sharp pains. I believe it is normal and can last for awhile.
  • Same boat here. I had my c section on 10/07 I've set myself back 2 times since and I'm in a lot of dull achy pain every day. I felt better right after I got home from the hospital than I do now. My belly binder helps, but every time DS breast feeds I'm in pain from the contractions it causes
  • I think it is the internal incision. Remember there were two cuts! Il one into your abdomen and the the cut to get into your uterus. I think becaus the uterus is still contracting and shrinking you feel that incision pain for a while longer than the external cut. I had my section on 10/15 and today is the first day I am totally messed free. I stopped the Percocet on day 5, but was still occasionally taking Advil. I am naturally a side sleeper so I is no problem sleeping in pregnancy, but it is really painful to sleep on my side now because of that internal pain. I am able to sleep on my side for small stretches now starting two days ago, so hopefully that means the internal wound is healing too!
  • @kaza512 my DH has been in the OR for 2 c sections and looked at me like I was cray cray when I told him I thought the pain was my internal incision. He had me questioning the entire process.

  • No there are definitely two incisions. The baby has to get out of the uterus somehow!!! They cut the abdomen the pull apart the muscles then cut the uterus. Did your DH actually get to watch the whole thing??? My husband wasn't allowed to watch until they had already cut everything and were ready to pull her out!
  • He was behind the curtain with me but they didn't stop him from standing up to watch at any point. He watched most of it the first time b/c I was super out of it.

  • The curtain they used during my c-section, was only enough to block my view. DH saw EVERYTHING. If you wonder why you are sore, weeks later, watch a video of it. I know with DD, two people had to hold my stomach open to get her out because she was stuck. DH said they literally braised both their bodies on the table and pulled me apart, and the doctor reached in to get the baby. They pushed and pulled on me hard enough that I was moving all over the table. Then he said they just started throwing all my internal organs back into my opening, and sewed me back up. Its really no wonder its such a tough recovery.
