Our holidays are so screwed... So my parents are coming to the USA three days before my due date. They will stay to New Year's Day. My husband flies for an airline and doesn't have the seniority to get the best schedule so it's likely he'll be gone the entire time they're here and may not see his daughter's birth, though he's going to do his best. Once you get your schedule you're set to fly unless somebody will trade. Nobody but my dad has updated their pertussis vaccine yet and I have no idea how to manage a houseful. I can't wait though, honestly. I only see my parents a few times a year. I'm so glad they'll be here.
If it helps anyone with relatives, the nurse who taught our baby care class last night said it's recommended to keep your newborn away from larger crowds of people, (like at holiday gatherings) for 6 weeks to 2 months. We've been sort of hesitant about plans. I'm due on the 12th, but have family 1 hr away in two separate directions. So we'd been thinking we'll wait & see, but I'll most likely not be up to hitting BOTH families within 24 hrs & we can't just go see one. But when he heard that last night, my man just said "Shut it down!" Which I'm assuming means we'll be solo this xmas. Which he is excited about, & I am excited & a little sad, since I know I'll miss my family. But this is the best thing for baby.
I'm having a c-section on the 9th, and then my mom is coming into town on the 20th to help us out (she's a teacher, so unfortunately she couldn't take off before then due to missing too many days from school). My dad, brother, and my mom's parents are all flying in on the 23rd and leaving on the 27th, with my mom staying until the 30th. We're calling it "Christmas Light" this year - more emphasis on family and being together and less on feeling like we need to jump through all the hoops/traditions we are used to. Just trying to stay relaxed and enjoy getting time all together with our new baby girl!
We then do Christmas again with my husband's family over New Year's weekend, and then his mom is going to stay to help us out for a few additional days. Same thing with them - less of an emphasis on pulling out all the stops (even though I normally love to cook a huge meal and do all the festive stuff!) I think this year we'll just be so happy that our little one is here that it will make it the best Christmas ever, even without all the other stuff! Really looking forward to the holidays this year!
Well I'll either be in labor, already have had him, or still waiting lol we are just playing it all by ear because his due date Is December 24th so whatever falls in that direction I guess we'll take it lol
