Hello Mama's
I have had one crazy month of October that has ended with the birth of my first son, Maddox Elijah.
Back on October 1st I landed in the ER with stomach pains, the chalked it up to constipation and sent me home later that day. I spent the next day throwing up all day and my right side started to hurt, almost like a muscle pain or strain. We thought it was just a strain from all the vomiting I had been doing. The next day the vomiting stopped but the pain got worse, I called my OB who saw me right away and sent me back to the hospital. She thought I might have gallstones. I spent the next day and a half having every test run on me. They checked for gallstones, pneumonia, ran blood cultures, etc. Finally they ordered a CT and figured out it was my appendix and it had ruptured. They took me into to surgery that evening and were able to remove it lathroscopically. (I was 27 weeks at this point).
I went home 3 days later, sore, but feeling better. Baby was a trooper through it all, the doctors were so impressed with how well he did through it all.
I recovered at home for the next 2 weeks, it was tough and I only slept in 1 hour intervals, but I was getting stronger.
Friday 2 weeks ago, I finally felt strong enough to drive and I went and took my glucose test and had my back adjusted at my chiropractor because I started feeling some lower back pain that morning. The back pain persisted that afternoon and that night I ended up back at the hospital when I started bleeding randomly. By the time I got to the hospital I was having contractions every 6-7 minutes. They gave me magnesium to slow my contractions and started me on a steroid shot in case he decided to come early. By Sunday the contractions were little more than painless crampy contractions and I was going to get discharged. My OB checked my cervix and I was 1 cm dialated and thinning (same as I was on Friday). As I was about to leave the hospital the contractions picked back up and I ended up staying one more day for observation.
Finally last Monday I headed home after, I was told if I had more than 4 contractions in an hour to head right back to the ER.
By 10 pm that night I was back at 4 an hour. I tried to hold out as long as possible but by 1 am we were heading back to th century hospital. They watched me all morning and then around 2 pm I had moved to 2 cm dialated and was admitted.
Around 1130 that night my water broke. I pushed through 3 contractions and my baby boy was born at 0001 on 10-21 @ 29 weeks. He came out crying and weighing 3lbs 1 oz. 16 inches. He scored an 8 and 9 on his apgar as well!
Hes been in NICU since but was never on a ventilator and has been breathing room air on his own. Today when we visited we got the amazing news that they are moving him from the NICU to the step down intermediate nursery.
This was certainly not what I expected with my first baby and it has been incredibly hard leaving him at the hospital. I have my moments of just crying out of no where, but my DH has been my rock through this and I could not ask for a better partner.
I hope to be able to take Maddox home sooner rather than later and I can't wait to hold him next week and do kangaroo care. (They have him on humidity for 7 days so he can't be held).
Sorry for the lengthy post, I am so excited to be a mom and my baby is perfect in every way, I can't wait to have him home. This pregnancy was not the easiest that's for sure, but my boy is healthy so for that I am thankful and I would go through it all again for him.
