Cloth Diapering

New to CD. Preparing my stash??

We're expecting our first in 11 weeks and have questions regarding getting our stash ready for his bum. I've purchased a few CD's new as well as gently used. How do I prepare the used ones? I've read all kinds of info from doing a bleach soak to stripping to simply washing...and each one says the other methods aren't right and to do it this way. Help?!? The packaging on the new dipes has instructions on preparing them for use, which I plan on following. If it's as easy as washing the used ones, can I wash them WITH the new??

Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks!!

Re: New to CD. Preparing my stash??

  • The FAQ recommends washing used dipes with 1/4 cu. bleach, then multiple rinses until you can't smell the bleach anymore.

  • Agree with @freezorburn a lot of methods are so harsh on your diapers, 1/4 cup of bleach in the wash then rinsing is pretty tame in comparison. If your new diapers are natural fibers (cotton/hemp/bamboo) it's recommended to wash them a few times on their own before combining with other diapers. If it were me I'd do the bleach wash on used and then prep as instructed by brand for the new ones, separately since they don't need bleach. Good luck!
