Does crazy sensitive sense of smell go away when nausea goes away???

I'm 11w 3d and feeling like the awful nausea is starting to get a little better...still have food aversions but not as horrible.  But my sense of smell is insane.  I've always had a sensitive nose, so now I feel like I know what it's like to be a dog!!!  Everything smells.  Each room in my house has it's own smell, I can barely go food shopping because I feel like I smell like the store when I leave, I have to wear a mask when I cook, standing next to someone wearing perfume is torture...

So does anyone know if this will get better once the nausea goes away?   Or am I in it for the long haul until the little one comes?

  • Mine has not gone away despite my nausea getting better.

Needless to say, my Christmas list is like fifty scentsy burners.... also, we now have 2 air cleaners/purifiers in the house.

Also, the table across the restaurant last night ordered scallops. :p

I still have super smell from my second pregnancy. So it might never go away.

  • Poor you! Im nearly 20 weeks and my nose is still quite sensitive but nothing like yours! I guess just like any pregnancy symptom some
People get things to different degrees. It hasnt got better since my nausea went (14w) but it is easier as now i dont want to barf whenever i smell something unpleseant. Hang in there!
  • Ugh!  Thanks all, sounds like I'll just have to get used to it.  I'm about to go make a few candles with some yummy essential oils, and an air purifier sounds like a good idea.
  • I never really had MS, but I still have the sensitive smell. I'm hoping it goes away after my son is born, because it's terrible.

  • I'm 14 wk.  I've had some bad MS (more nauseous than actual throwing up), and it's getting better.  But smells still get to me.  Cooking isn't so bad, but the way the grocery store smells-- blah.  Washing dishes that smell from sauces and stuff...I'm heaving.  I work at a University and students eat outside my office bc there are tables, and I have to close the door because I can't stand it.
  • In my experience it has stayed through the whole pregnancy with each of them. Everyone's different though.

We just moved into a new house a couple of months ago and I found out I was pregnant about a month ago. I've had horrible MS... all day every day... and our new house smells so so bad to me! The only room that doesn't smell bad is the bathroom. The carpeting is old and the previous owners were older and didn't seem to open windows very often. Our bedroom even makes me nauseous. It's to the point where as soon as I walk in our front door I run straight to the bathroom. It never fails. I'm about 7 weeks and nausea is only getting worse for me at this point! Are there any smells, candles, etc that you guys have found helpful?
