Tylenol question

I asked my husband for tylenol last night for a headache and he brought me two pills. This morning i found out he gave me tylenol cold multi symptom daytime pills. Ack! I know prego people are not supposed to take multi symptom tylenol especially during the first trimester. I am a little freaked out now. Anyone else taken this during pregnancy?? I only took the two pills.

Re: Tylenol question

  • You should be fine.  There is nothing in it that shows evidence of teratogenicity in humans. All of the ingredients are category C.  If you took them all day every day at high doses, there might be some issues, but using it as directed on occasion, there's nothing to worry about.  The decongestant in it (phenylephrine) can raise blood pressure slightly, and the cough suppressant (dextromethorphan) can cause hallucinations or get you "high" if you take 20x the normal dose.  Those are just the precautions surrounding those ingredients in general.  In the future, I would opt for regular Tylenol though.  Don't freak out, it's going to be okay!
