Return to Swaddle?

Hi everyone. My LO has been sleeping in the magic sleep suit for about 3 weeks, waking anywhere from 1-3 times at night. 2 nights ago she pooped all over everything and I didn't have a chance to wash it, so last night I out her back in a swaddle since I don't think she's ready to sleep completely free yet. She slept from 9-6:30 without waking! It was the most beautiful thing I have experienced in a long time. It makes me want to go back to swaddling her every night but I worry that she's never going to be able to sleep without it. Am I being selfish? Should I continue with the sleep suit so she can learn to sleep well without a swaddle?

Re: Return to Swaddle?

  • We tried dropping one swaddle last night (he usually is double swaddled like he was at the hospital so he is nice and tight)....he busted one arm out and was throwing it up in the air like he just don't care- wide awake- at 5:00 this morning and he usually has to be woken up at 7:45 to go to daycare!
  • We double swaddle too. I am frightened of the day when DD learns to roll over....

  • I just started leaving one arm out of the swaddle during naps to try to start the transition out of it completely. I'm not willing to do it at night yet because I don't want to give up my sleep since he sleeps through the night. We are taking baby steps... Lol
  • We are swaddling for as long as possible! LO just won't sleep without it. They will eventually sleep without being swaddled so I'm not stressing yet about transitioning her.
  • See that's what I don't understand...we don't swaddle for naps at home and they aren't allowed to at daycare-- so why does he flail around so much at night! He's still in a Rock and Play, so I'm not worried about him rolling in it, but eventually we will have to transition him!!
  • Thanks everyone! I feel better knowing there are other babies at 3 months still being swaddled! And we haven't been swaddling for naps during the day but maybe we'll try one; LO only naps when being held most of the time which is cute and I love her but sometimes mommy needs a break!
  • We are at 13 weeks and still swaddling. I tried a few nights with one arm out but he was waking himself up. Now we are going through some sort of sleep regression (he's up every 2-3 hours when he was sleeping 5-6) and I I'm clinging to his swaddles for dear life! I know we have to start transitioning soon (he can roll tummy to back, but not back to stomach) but for now the swaddle stays.
  • I hear ya! My DH wanted to start weaning him off the swaddle, and I was just like "no- my sleep!"

We started with only popping one arm out when he woke for first feeding so he only was in it a few hours instead of the whole night. We still double swaddle w a hospital blanket and a swaddle me wrap sack for warmth.

A few days ago we started leaving one arm out the whole night. It hasn't had too much of an effect on his schedule. I like that we still did the full wrap for the initial stretch and transitioned slowly.
