My last pregnancy was nine years ago, so maybe I'm just ancient, but does everyone get these super-early ultrasounds now? With my two previous, I didn't have an u/s until 20 weeks. I think I had one additional with my DD, and just the one with my DS...
The super early ones seem to sometimes cause a lot of unnecessary angst - not seeing anything when it was really too early to see anything anyway.
I haven't been to my OB yet, and until I switch insurance plans (wasn't thinking I'd be having a baby this year & I have a high deductible plan), I'm just going to do what's absolutely necessary. It will be interesting to see what the OB's standard MO is.
Re: Early ultrasounds the norm?
I got an early one because I suffered from infertility and worked with a reproductive endocrinologist. Many other women get ultrasounds for this reason.
There are also other factors, such as high risk, multiple miscarriages, and bleeding.
I think it's the norm to be seen around 10-12 weeks for the first ultrasound.
