Breaking the swaddle

My 5 month old still sleeps in a swaddle sleep sack, both arms in. I've tried leaving an arm or two out but she wakes up in about an hour. The main thing that wakes her up at night is losing her pacifier so I would love to break her out of her swaddle so she can ok the pacifier back in herself! Any tips?!? Thanks!

Re: Breaking the swaddle

  • The Merlin Magic sleep suit is helpful for transitioning out of a swaddle. It's what my guy is in now. It has definitely helped since he has a strong startle reflex still. It might be worth looking into. They can be a little pricey though (~$40)

  • My daughter still has the reflex too. I will check it out! Thanks!
  • Merlin Majic Sleepsuit all the way. Saved us! It is pricey. But you really just need one... Maybe 2. I keep my little guy in a onesie in it so it's not like it's really getting dirty.
  • Also, my LO was waking every hour for about the last 6 weeks. I just tried not going into the nursery when he wakes at night, and he actually fussed himself back to sleep every hour when he woke up. Then he woke less and less over the following nights, until finally he last night slept from 8:30-4-30 with no wake-ups. Miraculous. So, maybe try not comforting him? At least give him a couple of minutes to see if he will go back to sleep?
  • We use the Zipadee-Zip and it works really well.  As an added bonus, they can roll over in it so you don't have to worry about that.  Google it to see what it is all about!  I've heard good things about the Merlin too, but you're supposed to stop using that once they can roll over.
