I finally got my BFP last week. My husband and I were over the moon happy, told our closest family, everything was great. The day I found out I was 4 weeks, I started spotting brown then brown discharge, then next day and for the past 3 days, red blood, like a period. Had some cramps and discomfort, nothing too bad. Called my dr, was sent to do labs to check my levels, they were low, but ok (18), went today again to check if they've doubled or if they're going down. I'm trying really hard to stay positive and hope that my little baby is still fighting with me to stay around. Has this happened to anyone else and had it be ok? I've read a lot about breakthrough bleeding and a possible hematoma, but my Dr's nurse was very mean to me and said that was a possibility, but not likely. she kept repeating the word miscarriage to me like it was her favorite word.... They won't even see me until in 8 weeks.... Can anyone give me any advise, hope, anything?
Re: 4 weeks issues
What were the blood work results from today? Did they tell you?
TRY not to read anything about what could be happening because you will drive yourself crazy. The best thing you can do is call your doc and get labs done. Hang in there
OB nurses likely see things like this all the time and giving patients false hope doesn't do anyone any good. The reality is that red period level blood for 3 days sounds like a regular period. Paired with an HCG at the bottom end of normal for the gestation, its better to manage your expectations and be able to tell you good news rather than make you think it's all okay just to be shot out of the sky if the test comes back with even lower levels.
I sorry if this comes off as harsh, I would rather not sugarcoat it and make you think it's all going to be okay. That being said, I do hope it all turns out okay for you.
This is your first time experiencing this type of experience whereas your nurse has probably dealt with this a lot with other patients. I'm sure you were reading her as mean while she was trying to just make you fully aware that there is a high probability you're experiencing a miscarriage.
Unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do right now other than test your hcg level every other day to see if it is doubling or not. And most ob offices won't see patients until 8 weeks because before then, there isn't much to see via u/s.
The only advice I can give is prepare yourself for the worse and hope for the best.
