37 weeks and starting labor? Need advice!!

I will be 37 weeks on Saturday. I had an appointment yesterday with my OBGYN and cervix was very thin (been losing tiny bits of green mucus like substance every once in a while over last week) and about 2cm dilated. He is head down and ready to go she said. Today after running a few errands I was driving home and had a small gush of fluid that came in three small waves one right after another. I felt down there and it was enough for me to know that it was a clear thin liquid. Came inside to the bathroom and the wet spot on my pants was about the circumference of a baseball. I haven't had another gush like that since (it was about 3:30pm) but have had some pressure and strong Braxton hicks (have not timed anything yet to see if they're regular). I'm currently laying on the couch to keep an eye on it all. What do you guys think? Is this the early stages of labor? Should I go to L&D to be checked?

This is my second baby. Was induced with my first so this is all new to me. Advice please!!!!

*Usually* when your water breaks, it'll constantly leak. Like if you lay down for a while and stand up, you'd should feel another gush. I would go to L&D just to confirm whether or not your water has been broken. Typically most places want you to deliver within 24 hours of your water breaking due to risk of infection and other possible issues.

  • I am laying down taking it easy. No more gushes so far and no persistent contractions.

Have you stood up and at least walked around the room since you laid down? I'm with pp, if you stand and leak again I'd definitely go get checked. It is possible to be in labor and not feel regular contractions. With my 5th I had no idea I was, went in just to be checked out and gave birth an hour later.
Edited cause I listed wrong pregnancy.

  • Yes I have. Gave my four year old a bath and dinner and put him to bed with no more leaking.

OP my second came so damn fast I almost had her in the car. I was also induced with my first so I had no idea I was in true labor. When the contractions are more timetable and don't let up then you are in labor.
  • I'd get it checked for amniotic fluid, if that's what it was and you don't go into labor you and baby are at risk of infection.
  • Call your doctor!
  • I'm 35 weeks today and I had a rush of fluid a few weeks ago, my mom took me to the er just in case my water did break. The doctors there just told me the baby may have pressed on my bladder or something but you can never be too careful!
