Rant - I want to put myself into a sterile bubble until Spring

People at work are already sick.. not just that.. they are coming into work sick.  I cannot afford to be sick, I don't have many sick days and I don't want to be sick and possibly delay/hurt my IVF cycle. I told my cubicle neighbor I would scratch his eyes out if he got me sick. I am ---><---- close to making a sign at the front of my cubicle that says, "If you even think you may be sick or a carrier of some sickness.. stay away."

How do people not understand how to stay home or stay away from people who outright SAY they cannot get sick.  Another cubicle mate was like.. well my husband has been really sick for over a week and I haven't so I think it's okay.  Um, NO... you could be a fricking carrier monkey.

Anyone else need to be in a bubble like me?

  • Can't blame you at all! Have you looked into immunity boosting vitamins, herbs, oils, etc? Some of that stuff is probably BS, but maybe some of it is worthwhile. I load up on Airborne when I'm around people with colds, or when I'm traveling, and I think it helps -- but it's hard to tell if I would have gotten sick or not without it. I have a friend that swears by essential oil blends for boosting immunity, but I haven't tried that yet. Obviously, check with your doc, blah blah. :)

Good luck with the sickos and the carrier monkeys -- I hope they stay far, far away!

  • I take cayenne capsules during the cold season/winter months, as well as extra vitamin C and Zinc. When I keep up with these vitamins, I never get sick (and I'm exposed to a LOT of germs because I work with children). Good luck!!

  • Thank you for the ideas!  I have a friend who does the essential oils, @infantino22 so I'll have to look into that for sure.  I tried Airborne once but hated the taste.. sure it's changed over the years so I'll take a look at those.  I take theranatal plus, but I'll look into if I can take the extra vitamin C and Zinc.    Silly question, @jilligan14, are cayenne capsules hot or do you just swallow them and don't taste them?

  • It's hard. I was in a bad car accident the first week of January. It took all my sick, personal and vacation time for the year. So unless I'm dying or dead I'm at work.
I keep well stocked up on Lysol spray and Clorox wipes. I also buy the bulk bag of halls vitamin c drops. Anyone who goes home sick has their desk sprayed down.

  • I love the berry flavored chewable Airborne, @Piperella -- totally with you on the taste of the powder/fizz/weirdness.
  • The cayenne is inside a capsule so you don't taste a thing while you're swallowing them. However, they can cause a bit of heartburn if taken on an empty stomach so it's important to take them with food (I take them at the start of my meal). You can check out the kind I order here. I hope they help keep you healthy and well!

  • Ugh. I hate it when people show up sick to work. I very rarely get sick, two years ago though I got strep throat (which SUCKS as an adult) courtesy of a PA I work with who brought it from his kids at home.

  • uhg, showing up sick is a big pet-peeve of mine and, fortunately, also of those i work with. I am fortunate to work where most of us can easily work from home, plus have a generous amount of sick leave. So very few excuses for showing up to work sick in our office! And if you do you will probably hear about it :)
