Not dialated or effaced

I'm nearly 39 weeks and I am not dialatef or effaced. Does that mean I am not close at all to labor or will have to be induced ?

Not exactly. I went to the hospital Sunday at 1:40 am and was checked, I was closed and not effaced. Went back Monday morning 3:40am 4.5cm dilated and had baby 5:38pm that night.

Hard to say. I was only 1 1/2 at my 39 week appt. My due date is today. Yesterday they told me no change at all so they scheduled me for an induction on the 30th. Hoping she decides to come before then!

It is hard to say. I hit 41 weeks today, no dilation as of yesterday and my cervix has only "begun to soften" according to my dr. I am going in tomorrow morning to be induced.

I keep seeing women remarking how dilated or effaced they are, and it drives me a little batty. Don't worry that you aren't dilated or effaced yet, because it doesn't matter. It won't affect when you'll go into labor.

I'm completely closed at 39 weeks 4 days. With my first I didn't open until labor. You may go past your due date, but that's normal.

Thanks everyone, that makes me feel better because I honestly feel like i am goingn to be pregnant forever ha!

I feel better after reading this too. I know I shouldn't care if I'm dilated or not (my dr told me she was only a fingertip, then water broke the next day!) but I was still sad when they checked me today (38w6d) and my cervix was still very far up and barely a fingertip. I just want my baby darn it! I'll keep exercising and all...hopefully that'll help...

Me too! I'm 39w1d today and had the same measurements. I came home from the appt and told DH I was going for a walk.

I had my 40 week appt today and he said I'm 75% effaced, but my cervix is still up by my tonsils and I'm not dilated. I have a non stress test scheduled for next Friday. Ugh. If it doesn't correct itself I'll probably wind up having to have a c section because he doesn't want to force my cervix and make me go through a potentially long labor for nothing. Great....
