Please tell me this is normal, but he doesn't really seem interested in her. He doesn't really hold her or interact with her. I don't know if he is just scared of her right now. Anyone else having the same response from their husband/partner?

Re: First Time Dads

  • A lot of guys are scared of how fragile newborns are, and don't know how to interact with them. Eventually he'll adjust to having a new little person in his life and take a more active role. I would try talking to him about it; let him know how he can interact with the baby and reassure him he's gonna be a good dad.

  • I haven't had my baby yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if DH is similar. He isn't one of the dads who rubs my belly or talks to the baby.
  • DH was the same with our first. Our second is 4 weeks and he has a similar hands off approach. He will do anything I ask him to and that is about it. If there are things you want or need him to do, just ask and I'm sure he will be happy to do it.

When I've asked H he usually just says he doesn't know what needs to be done. That said, as DD1 got older he started engaging more....she's almost 4 and the relationship they have is so sweet!
