Birth control pill. When to start

So I got a prescription for the regular birth control pill (not the mini pill) since I'm no longer breast feeding. I haven't been breast feeding for about a month and a half. I was told by the pharmacist to start it once I start my period but my period hasn't started yet. Has anyone else started the regular pill before they got their period? I want to start it but I'm afraid If I do before I get my period then it might not be as effective.

Re: Birth control pill. When to start

  • I was on the pill originally, and since i had yet to have my cycle, I was told by the pharmacist to start it whenever, basically it tells your body to start having a period again. Also I was otld it takes a full pack or month before it is effective.
  • Ya I was on it originally too. Then off a few months to get pregnant. Strange my pharmacist said wait til my period starts and my regular Dr (not gyno) said the same thing. I suppose I could give my gyno a call.

  • I'd call the pharmacist. They are the experts in that area
  • My gyno told me that I could start it anytime as long as I started the pack on a Sunday.
