Grunting in sleep

My LO had been grunting in her sleep usually after the 5am feed. She sleeps for about 45 minutes and then the grunting starts, but she doesn't wake up. Could this be gas because she doesn't burp great with motn feedings?

Re: Grunting in sleep

  • I don't know if it's gas or not, but wanted to throw in there that my LO also grunts. A lot! He's a pretty gassy baby, despite being breastfed, but he's also just a generally noisy baby. It doesn't worry me really because he doesn't seem uncomfortable.

Our LO grunted like a mad man all night, never woke himself up but it was enough to keep us up. We switched him to a Love to dream swaddle sac and his grunting is a lot better. He just wanted his hands.

  • Mine also grunts often in her sleep. She also cries out, screams, giggles, ect. I figure it happens as she goes through different sleep stages. It's the main reason why she no longer sleeps in our room.

  • Violet makes a ton of noises in her sleep too, from grunts to squeaks etc. she's a little sound machine. It's usually when she's sleeping lighter and it quieter when she's out cold.
  • I think had may have something to do with it because my guy sounds like a little dinosaur trying to sleep
  • This is after the 430/5am feed and she usually does it throughout the whole 2.5-3.5 hour sleep... So I can't sleep
  • My little one is a noisy sleeper. He sleeps quieter when he is swaddled so at least he isn't so loud at night. He's just noisy all the time.

  • My babies do the same thing, I have to sleep with a pillow over my head to get any rest. I think it's gas.
  • My little guy sleeps soundly his first sleep of the night, but has a more light sleep after his middle of the night feed. During this he'll wake up every 30 minutes or so, make a few noises, the put himself back to sleep. That's very common when babies are in their REM (light) sleep. As each cycle finishes, they may wake up for a moment, then fall back asleep. I've learned to tune out his little noises and usually only fully wake up when he actually cries.
