Normal standing position-4 month old, asymmetric leg fat folds

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has thought or experienced the same as me. My dd when assisted standing always seems to stand "crooked" side to side when you look at her torso and legs from the front or behind. She bends at the hips and leans forward which I know is normal. (She is just 4 months). Her pediatrician has checked her hips for hip dystotia every assessment and even checked this last time when I specifically brought it up. He says she is normal but of course I am second guessing how she looks. I feel like she stands abnormally. I think I will book her in for a chiropractic assessment. She is getting an ultrasound in November to check her hips 100%. She does have asymmetric leg fat folds however her pedi insists she is okay. Any words of wisdom are appreciated. Thx

  • My daughter's hips were a little "clicky" for the first month or so and the pedi kept rechecking them and even sent us to Children's Hospital. The doctor at Children's said that asymmetric folds were a sign of something "off". I'd follow your gut and follow up on this if you are concerned.

  • Thanks @Bigboobsmcgee. The nurse at our health clinic did a thorough exam today. She feels nothing is wrong. I'll go next week for a chiropractic assessment and then she has the ultrasound later. Will update later with what is found.

  • Can you see a pediatric orthopedist? I had hip dysplasia as an infant myself which wasn't caught until 3 months or so from those uneven leg folds. I was in and out of casts until about 8 months and then in a harness until almost a year. It's a congenital condition usually passed on to females. My daughter ended up with it as well but her pediatrician caught it on day 2 due to the clicking and confirmed with ultrasound. She was in a harness for 12 weeks total and is all better now. Her pediatric orthopedist was the expert who ordered all tests and gave instructions on her care and all that.

  • Yes I think we could get referral to a specialist if need be.. I am taking my daughter to the chiropractor this week and she's having an ultrasound in November to help diagnose. Thanks for sharing your story, @Marielle0430.

  • I don't know anything about whether this could be orthopedic but that being said I'd agree with your pediatrician about the asymmetric fat levels. I'd assume the leg with 'less fat rolls" is her dominant leg so she works it more so less fat, if that makes any sense. But again, as far as standing crooked I have no ideas. Good luck at the chiropractor! Hope it helps ease your mind, if nothing else!
  • My little one also had hip dysplasia. Diagnosed at 2 days old and was in a harness for 13 weeks. I agree that an orthopedist would be your best bet, even tho my pediatrician caught it. We had several ultrasounds and xrays and LO is all better now!
