Has anyone else gotten to 33 weeks and gained only 11 1/2-12 lbs? My dr said today that I'm measuring small and has ordered an ultrasound. I'm pretty worried. My original weight was 127.4, I'm now 139.0. Height 5' 4 1/2". Baby is extremely active. Dr has never been concerned before and he always said to just eat when I'm hungry, don't eat when I'm not. I eat less in general than before I was pregnant, because I feel full so quickly. I know when I'm stressed I tend to eat less, and have been under tremendous stress with work. Really hoping this lack of weight is not unheard of?

Re: 33 Wks Pregnant and only 12 lbs gained

  • I am 35 w 2 days and have only gained 13 lbs. Dr. Hasn't expressed concern. I also have gd so am on a strict diet. I have a growth ultrasound Mon. Too.

  • 31 weeks and haven't gained a pound back of my pre preg weight, but my baby is measuring big. We store a lot so even when I was losing my baby was taking what My body was able to store and used that. My doctor isn't concerned at all and even if your ultrasound shows your baby small they are notorious for being off at this stage. I have a close friend who measured very small with her kids and she was naturally a very small woman and she went on to deliver 8-9pound babies.
  • I'm 36 weeks and I've only gained 11, (LO is estimated at 7.6-7.9 pounds of that!) However I'm the complete opposite of you, I'm a bigger/taller lady and it's not unheard of for bigger women to not gain a lot during pregnancy. I've also been sick nearly every day of this pregnancy. (I could strangle whoever said MS is just a 1st trimester issue)
As for your LO measuring small, you're petite and some petitie women have little babies. I'm hoping your u/s goes well, keep us updated!

It's not unheard of, as PP stated. I didn't gain much until the last 6-8 weeks, but a lot of that had to do with terrible morning sickness lasting until about 20 weeks. The baby gains of lot of weight towards the end and I put on about a pound a week at that point.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. Hopefully the ultrasound will put your mind at ease.

  • I am currently 36 weeks 3 days and have only gained 13 pounds. I'm the same height as you, but I started out at 135. I have had two ultrasounds just to be sure, but the baby is growing on target. Hopefully you will feel better after the ultrasound.
  • I'll be 35 weeks this weekend and have only gained fourteen pounds, and I'm shorter than you are with a lower pre-pregnancy weight. My midwife isn't concerned at all about the weight gain because my uterus is still growing from one appt to the next.

Hope everything goes okay with the ultrasound.
  • 34+2 and have gained 8-9 lbs. I'm 5'8" and started at 115lbs. My abdomen is measuring 6 cm behind as of today. A month ago a growth scan showed 45th percentile for my LO but today at my appt my doctor was concerned a enough to bump my next growth scan from he 28th of the month to an "emergent fit in" ultrasound today. Fluid is markedly low as well but still waiting on full results.
My doctor wasn't worried about my weight until today; have not gained in over a month. Also have a high-risk cord abnormality, take medication for pre-term contractions that makes me feel horribly ill, have HG, and suffer from intense migraines and back pain so the struggle to gain has been real this entire time.
Hope your US goes well. It's definitely not unheard of; my mom only gained 10lbs with me the entire pregnancy and I was 7lbs14oz.
  • Way better than me! I'm 31+5, and have only gained about 8 maybe 9 pounds. My pre pregnancy weight was 108. And I'm 5' 6 3/4". And from what I know, my baby is of healthy weight. I'm not exactly sure how much they weight, because I am having to LITERALLY fight my OB and the local Hospital to even get me my first sonogram set up! @-) So, I don't know a whole lot. Which is NOT a good thing, either. :-S Ugh! I just know I'm gaining the weight I'm suppose to be gaining for someone at my height and pre pregnancy weight. Even though I COULD gain a little more. But I never fully lost my fast Metabolism!
  • @ZoeyRaeJames I'm glad there are more of us in the same boat. When I tell people I'm 34 weeks they don't believe me (I'm actually 35 but my doctor refuses to go off the day I know we conceived and instead goes by my LMP!).
I'm not sure if you get it too, but I'm so tired of the "but you're SO small!!!!" as either an accusation that I'm lying about my EDD or that I'm not taking care of my baby by eating enough.
I had a fast metabolism and never ate fast food or junk food to begin with and nothing has changed with this pregnancy. Can't help I'm sick all the time either.
  • I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow. I lost 20lbs at the beginning of my pregnancy and i have MAYBE gained back only 5lbs of that. However, I am 5'2 and was almost 220lbs pre pregnancy. The doctor has yet to show any concern about my weight gain. Baby was measuring on target at 20 week ultrasound and so far my measurements at my monthly visits have shown I'm measuring where I should be. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned. They will make sure things are progressing correctly and tell you what to do if it isn't :) good luck!

I definitely understand the frustration with the "you're so small" comments! I get them on a daily basis and I think it was starting to make me very anxious! I've had to just let it go and feel reassured that the baby is getting what she needs.

I'm 36 weeks 3days and I've only gained 5lbs. Baby was measuring small at 33 weeks but ny doctor ordered weekly growth ultrasounds and now, my baby is measuring big - 2 weeks ahead. Weekly growth scans are good and will provide a piece of mind. Good luck ;;)
