Intro - and questions *child mentioned*

Hi all ,

Sorry we're all here. 

I am TTCing for #2 and have been having a rough go. We are on month 14 and I've had 3 losses. 

Today I have my HSG (ouch) and everything was normal. I am on CD 13 today and this cycle I took Femara (2.5 mg) from CD 3 - CD 12. I had an ultrasound today which was only 11 mm. The doctor seemed surprised it was so small, but didn't really say anything other than that. 

When I got home I researched Femara and it seems most people don't take it for as long as I do - but only 3-5 days during their cycle. Do you find it odd I took it for so long? 

I have a follow up next week and I will be asking him then.

Moving to IVF March 2016
Beta at 10dpo: 21, Beta at 12dpo: 98, Beta at 14dpo: 264, Beta at 16dpo: 745
U/S 6w6d: single beautiful heartbeat of 121bpm - It's a boy!!!!
Nov 3, 2016: Our family became complete. Welcome DS #2.

    Glad to hear your HSG was normal (never pleasant though... I have a feeling I'll be doing another one soon myself... blegh)

    I personally don't have any answers for you regarding your femara question. Definitely worth asking your doc about your protocol and his/her rationale behind it... Can you call email?

    Started TTC April 2011
    Me: 32, DH: 32
    Diagnosis: Endometriosis

    • 2012 - 3 Rounds clomid - all BFN
    • 2013 - 1 Fresh IVF with 2 day 3 embryos - BFN
    • 2014 - 1 Frozen IVF with 2 day 5 embryos - BFN
    • Took a long break, continuing trying naturally
    • Feb 2016 - Biopsy = Endo, DH sperm improved from 1% to 6% morphology
    • March 2016 - Fresh IVF cycle with acupuncture & intralipids: 20 eggs retrieved (17 mature), 7 ICSI'd fertilized, 9 naturally fertilized. 16 total embryos!
    • April 8th - 2 embryos (1ICSI and 1 Natural) transferred. (7 blastocysts frozen), April 18th - Beta = BFN
    • Sept 23rd - Lupron Depot Injection for Endo control
    • Nov 15th 2016 - Started daily Lupron Injections for upcoming FET
    • Nov 22 - Baseline US/BW - Intralipid Infusion - Start Meds for FET with immune protocol
    • Dec 16th FET transfer of 3 embryos (1 - AA, 2 - BB)
    • TW below
    • Dec 22nd - first ever bfp (very faint lines FRER & cheapie)
    • Dec 27th Beta = 192, Dec 29th Beta = 379
    • EDD - Sept 5th 2017

    Unfortunately, no. I'm in Canada and IF has opened my eyes to how frustrating our health care system is. We can't call or e-mail. If I were to call I would get "we can't answer that. speak to the doctor next week." and a hang up

    Do you have a nurse you can talk to? I'm in Canada too, and had a nurse I could email anytime, and would always get some answer (although they weren't always helpful, like 'that's what we do with all our patients'). I was also on Femara, but at 5mg, and only from days 3 to 7. From what I've read, Femara suppresses estrogen, and therefore puts your body in overdrive to produce more FSH, to eventually get to the estrogen levels you should be at. From that perspective, it doesn't seem unusual that your follies wouldn't have grown more as your estrogen was suppressed until the day before your ultrasound. Most of my follie growth happened between days 9 and 12, days after I had stopped the Femara. You should have more growth in the next few days I'd imagine? But yes, I'd definitely ask your RE what's the rationale there.

    Just wanted to stop by and say welcome!  I never took femara, so I cannot answer your question.  I'm going to guess he tried putting you on a starting protocol he uses at first and sees how you respond.  Definitely ask questions!

    I'm also Canadian (just starting first cycle in the US). It's shocking the difference in treatment. Yes public health is important but there are a LOT of issues too. I only had 1 clinic option in Calgary, now I have my pick of the litter. In Canada I also got passed around between the docs depending on who was working. I feel your frustration. Hope you get answers soon! Hugs.

    UPDATE to my original question re Femara..... 

    I could just cry. I am so frustrated by my clinic.

    I had a follow up appointment today and they asked me how the Femara went. I said fine, and it came up that I took it from C3-12. 

    They were shocked and asked me why it took it for so long... UMMMM - because you guys TOLD me to! They told me I am "confused" and misunderstood, and I should only have taken it from C3-7.

    Luckily I had the empty pill bottle in my purse and I showed them the instructions for use which said TAKE ALL PILLS - once per day. 

    (It looks like they gave me 2 refills in one bottle without telling me). 

    They indicated that I may not even ovulate this month because I suppressed my estrogen for so long this cycle. I have to miss yet another morning of work to go back tomorrow so I can have an ultrasound to measure follicle size.

    There was no apology from them, no sympathy or kindness whatsoever. I am so annoyed.

    TTC since 5/14
    Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)
    Clomid 50 mg 3/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    Clomid 50 mg + metformin 4/15 (unmonitored) - BFN 
    First RE appt. 5/15; Natural cycle 5/15 monitored with 2 mature follicles and Pregnyl Trigger (full dose) + prometrium - BFN
    6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
    TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
    TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
    BC for 2 weeks due to cysts
    TI - Injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & full dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 10/15 --> 1 mature follicle --> BFN 
    TI - Last attempt at injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + crinone (AM only) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 11/15 --> 3-4 mature follicles --> BFP!! 11/27/15 @ 13dpo (shockingly, actually waited until then to test)

    Beta #1 @ 16dpo (11/30/15) = 1,075
    Beta #2 @ 19dpo (12/3/15) = 3,150
    One baby: Saw heartbeat @ 5w5d (114 bpm; baby measuring 2.3mm)

    I had my ultrasound today and it looks like I ovulated! FF appears to be right. :)
