Hi! I just found out I'm 4weeks pregnant! We are super excited but I am the Matron of Honor in a wedding in December. I will be 13 weeks pregnant at that point. I am worried about showing/ not fitting into the dress. We aren't planning on telling anyone until later that week at Christmas. Has anyway had succes in using spanx or some sort of shape wear for hiding the initial bump? Also any advice for getting thru all of the events would be welcome too! Thanks!

Hi! I just found out I'm 4weeks pregnant! We are super excited but I am the Matron of Honor in a wedding in December. I will be 13 weeks pregnant at that point. Has the dress already been ordered?

Everyone is different but a lot of first time mothers don't start showing until several weeks into 2nd tri. I don't think I started to show until about 20 weeks. Of course you might have bloating or weight gain to contend with as well.

I would think about confiding in the bride. If you're MOH obviously you're close to each other. She might have some ideas with accommodations regarding the dress.

During the reception you can sip on a mocktail like seltzer and cranberry if you think not drinking alcohol would bring unwelcome questions. Make sure to have snacks and stay hydrated that day.

  • My wedding i was 12 weeks pregnant...my dress had to be redone my boobs didn't fit... Dont wear anything to hold in the bumb i did during my ceremony and made me have to pee more and very crampy feeling...I was barely showing at 12 weeks but i felt like everyone would notice.....best advice i can give is work out stay in shape it will help hold the bump back .... Make healthy eating choices too....to help with looking bloated .... few days before the wedding watch how much salt and fruit you intake....water weight! Not saying dont eat fruit....just saying fruit has lots of water and (healthy) sugars in it....it will make you bloat....also i had 3 glasses of wine/champaign my wedding day and NOT ASHAMED. 3 glasses in a 6 hr period of time i just took little sips so nobody would think anything. We wanted to wait to tell people so our focus was on pur wedding not a baby. But your breast might not fit so 2 weeks before take your dress to a local tailor make sure it all fits in i would hold of on fittings till then if you can ..... Or if your dress is at a bridal shop tell the shop so they can keep seems opened and not completely size it
  • Many first time mom's don't show until late second trimester or even third tri. You might have some noticeable bloat, which should be hideable with Spanx just like non pregnant bloat.

i agree with this. at 13 weeks you'll most likely barely be showing, if you'll be showing at all! I'm a FTM & I'm starting to show now at 19 weeks.
if anything, you'll probably be bloated & may struggle with having bigger boobs to deal with. perhapse you can get your dress altered a tad if dresses have already been ordered. or definitely try the Spanx idea mentioned by PP.
  • I went to a wedding at 14 weeks and one issue I didn't anticipate was the THREE dresses I bought.....didn't fit around my rib cage. Do you have a contingency plan for your dress? That would be my primary concern.
  • Did you already order the dress? And did you follow the store's measurement guide to select your size? If so you're probably fine...the size charts are usually generous and you shouldn't be showing too much by then. I wore my normal clothes, including bras, well into second tri (I just clasped my bras on the outside set instead of the inside one).

If you ordered a dress size smaller than your measurements for whatever reason, or the dress is off the rack (like David's bridal where you could have tried on every size and selected the one that fit best at the time) you may have an issue. If you get the dress and it doesn't fit, if I were you, I'd tell the bride the situation and ask if you can wear another dress.
  • I'm almost 13 weeks and still fitting in to all of my clothes (just less comfortably). I'd say just make sure you have a good bowel movement beforehand.

  • I would avoid spanx. Made me feel nauseous and very uncomfortable. See if you can hold off on alterations as long as possible, and I agree with possibly telling the bride!

  • If you are a FTM mom then you probably won't have a problem. If you are STM you might need to order your dress in a size up.

  • Very unlikely to show that early even if you're not a FTM, I would be concerned about bloating, but I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm one of those people that swells up everywhere the moment the sperm meets the egg, so people can usually tell I'm pregnant in my face long before I get a bump.
