Short of Breath

Anyone else feeling shortness of breath? I almost feel waterlogged, like when you swim a lot. I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I can't remember if I had this with DS or not. But I have been so pukey lately and this is just making me feel even worse =[

Re: Short of Breath

  • I have had this on and off. I'm a FTM and didn't expect this so early but I'm taking all these symptoms as I receive them and trying not to think about them too much.

I just hope that pregnancy gets enjoyable at some point. I don't want the only positive to be that I had a cute bump. Some women say they loved being pregnant.

  • I have it too. I think it's normal because even though the baby is still tiny, your uterus is doing some growing and your other organs are getting a little crowded.

@CopperLane I personally loved being pregnant with my first! The first trimester was the worst for me, but after that I really enjoyed it. When you can feel the baby move, it's so exciting. There are still some bad symptoms you can have, but I think it gets a lot better for most women after first tri!

  • I also feel this and its baby #2 for me. And Im in really good shape! I just ran a half marathon in June for Christs sake! And now Im winded like ALL THE TIME. It blows. BUT, I've had super mild symptoms, so I shouldn't complain.

I also loved being pregnant with my first! The first tri was the worst for sure, even though I only had very mild nausea from about 8-10 weeks. But feeling that baby move? AMAZING. I loved to sit in a warm bath and watch my belly go crazy because my son would get all excited about getting to stretch out. My husband thought it was a little bit creepy, but I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

  • Yes, walking up the hill from the library today I was panting, not something that would usually strain me as I make that walk several times a week.

  • I felt that way in my first pregnancy; turns out it was due to heartburn! I received Zantac and that helped immensely. Feel better.
  • @emucoleman I hope this pregnancy starts turning around once I feel baby move! I have IBS and I'm all too used to the flutters and bubbles my intestines make so I'm sure I won't even realize it's the baby at first! I'm slightly creeped out but mostly excited to experience baby movements!!

    This first tri is draaaaaaagging.
  • @CopperLane At first it was really hard to tell because I was always like, "Is that the baby or is it gas?" But when it actually happened the first time, I totally knew! The more it happens, the better you get at distinguishing. I feel like it sounds kind of weird and creepy when you haven't experienced it...but I've never heard of a mom who didn't like feeling the baby kick. Best feeling ever. :) Ah, it's nice to have things to look forward to as I lie here exhausted on my couch...

  • I am also very fit (a triathlete) and have had this problem big time (am 5.5w).  I did some googling and apparently it's due to "underfill" -- your cardiovascular system has expanded (including blood vessels dilating) to accommodate the extra blood you will make, but you haven't made all of the extra blood yet.  From what I read, it should dissipate over the next few weeks and extra iron is crucial right now.
  • I also have shortness of breath. I feel like someone needs to poke me with a pin to let air out. I did IVF and have actually been experiencing this since 5 days post transfer.  I had my fist ultrasound last week at 6w6d and we saw twins. I don't know if twins are the reason i experience this. I just cant breathe :( I swear eating an oyster cracker will make me feel so stuffed I cant breathe either.
