April 2016 Moms

Headaches

I've had headaches since I was 4-5 weeks. I'm now 15w1d still having headaches. U normally have 2/3 a week. Sometimes more and they linger. I've always been a water drinker. I still uped my intake to about 100oz. They gave me fioricet, but are trying to ween me off even though I still have them. Tylenol, sleep, a coke or cold pack just don't help some days. Even try pepperiment oil and acupuncture. Anyone else have this or good advice. Oh BTW I don't have high bp.

Re: Headaches

  • No advice but I'm in the same boat... also drink a ton of water, get a fair amount of sleep and aren't stressed.  I guess the only blame is hormones?  Is it April yet?  :P

  • I have this problem too even when I'm not pregnant. Sometimes if it gets really bad and DH is home to watch dd I'll run hot water in the bath and fill it up to my ankles. Sit on the side of the tub with my feet in the water and drink a really big really cold ice water. My MIL told me about this because she gets horrible migraines and it works more often than not. Just slowly sip the water too. Don't gulp it down quickly. Idk why it works but it usually does. Also try camomile tea with a little honey. It works pretty well too. Good luck!

  • I'm just getting tired of the headaches. It gets in my way of being a me to work some days. I'll will definitely try hot water and cold water! Exactly how I feel, is April here?!!!

    Thanks ladies
  • With my first pregnancy, I had terrible headaches almost daily for almost all of my second trimester. It is really common and unfortunately not much helped me... Mine have started up with pregnancy in the last couple of weeks so I expect them to be around for a while.

  • Try putting your hands and feet in warm water at the same time and putting a cold compress (even a bag of frozen veggies works) on the back of your neck right at the base of your skull. Works for me most the time. I have chronic migraines on top of pregnancy headaches.
  • I've had an almost migraine worthy headache for 6 days now. Yesterday when I woke up I just sat and cried. Tylenol doesn't touch it, plus I feel so guilty that I have taken as much Tylenol as I have. The last thing I want is to harm my babies. I'm using essential oils and caffeine and Tylenol combo just to take the edge off. Also am seeing the chiropractor. I'm just praying that I get some relief soon. This is awful.
  • I completely agree. I'm on my 4th day. I felt the same way with the Tylenol. They prescribed me fioricet, only temporarily relief . All is just temp. I'm overseas so we don't gave a chiropractor here all the time. That's my next option when I go see my Dr Tuesday!
Ive called in 2 days this week. I hate it.
  • I see a naturopath as well as my OB. She suggested that my symptoms sounded like a magnesium deficiency, and started me on a 150mg magnesium supplement. My headaches are gone! It's like a miracle. I also upped my intake of magnesium rich foods, like spinach, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, salmon, bran cereal. I guess you need around 350mg of magnesium per day (depending on your age) and symptoms of a deficiency are headaches, back aches, leg cramps, constipation. Something to consider/look into if you are desperate for headache relief like I was. I know we are all very different though, and I wouldn't recommend starting any supplement without talking to your doctor. But changing your diet to be more magnesium rich is probably in the realm of safety for anyone. Good luck mamas!
  • I've seen multiple sources warning that headaches can be a bad symptom during pregnancy because of increased blood flow and hormones. I'm unfortunately experiencing these tension headaches almost daily while at work. I notice even the smallest amount of stress during my day starts one of these headaches, but I'm unfortunately stuck at work and can't take a nap like I normally would (which cures these headaches for me). I can't even try the other remedies as mentioned above since I'm at work. I honestly just suffer through them because there's nothing else that I can do.
  • I have been suffering from the ongoing headache since week 16 started.   It is behind my eyes and predominantly on the right side.   I am not sure what it is caused from because I watch my food intake very carefully.  It is subsided VERY temporarily from diet Coke and candy (which is not what I want to be snacking on).

Tylenol does nothing.  The best thing I can do is lay quiet in a dark room.   The pain gets so bad that I usually become ill and throw up but I have been doing that since Week 8.
  • The headaches have been awful for me as well. :(

Nothing much helps except laying in a dark and quiet room.

  • I've been getting about 2 headaches per week. Mostly affecting the back of my head and extending down my neck. My BP is normal. I find a lot of relief by putting a heating pad on the back of my head/neck and my hubby brings me saltine crackers with peanut butter and ginger ale. If you Drink too much water, it can flush a lot of sodium out of your body which can cause headaches. Laying down in a dark, quiet room also helps. If you can tolerate going for a walk, I recommend that too. The days I get fresh air I find I feel better than the days I am inside all day.
  • I started with the bad headaches at week 14. I upped my water intake and haven't had a headache at all today. I spent a lot of time in the restroom however. Lol I thought I was drinking enough water but apparently not. Hope these headaches start to clear up for everyone.
  • I'm on ezrea
  • I too have had headache / migraine issues. Lucky for me, I work in a headache clinic. Two IV bags of magnesium have done the trick for me. Our doc recommends magnesium in pill form all the time to patients and it seems to help. Check with your OBs to see if this is something you can take. Mine gave it the thumbs up so I will begin that as soon as I purchase it. 250mg twice a day. I was surprised to find magnesium absent from my prenatal. Hoping you all find some relief!
  • I tried adding the powdered magnesium to my water and it didn't really help.

I think the headaches depend on what brings it on.... Stress, Sleep, or low blood sugar.
